Sonam Raghuvanshi Claims To Be Drugged, Doesn't Recollect How She Reached Ghazipur

The Uttar Pradesh Police on June 10, 2025, shared that Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is the top suspect in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, claimed that she did not have any idea of how she reached Ghazipur, where she was located right outside a dhaba on the Varanasi Ghazipur Highway. Sonam alleged that she has no memory of how she reached the place from where she surrendered herself.

Sonam and the deceased Raja Raghuvanshi were residents of Indore. It was in May 2025 when both of them had gone on a planned honeymoon by Sonam. Raja's body was then found in a gorge in the Sohra area with a murder weapon. The cops then arrested three killers from Madhya Pradesh along with Sonam's alleged boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, and Sonam, who surrendered. A senior police officer in a media statement had shared:

"The woman claimed she had no idea how she ended up at the dhaba in Ghazipur, and did not know who had brought her there. The police checked the footage of the CCTV installed close to the dhaba to verify her claim."

The cops, meanwhile, are now collecting CCTV clippings from the area near the eatery where Sonam was located and had called her family. After the police got the information of her whereabouts, they reached the place where she was nabbed and claimed to have surrendered. The Madhya Pradesh Police’s Crime Branch had shared with the Indian Express that Sonam's alleged boyfriend, Raj, may have orchestrated Raja’s killing with the help of his girlfriend, Sonam. The cops shared that Kushwaha decided to plan the murder of Raja days after the pair got married.

Sonam Raghuvanshi was found outside a dhaba at 2 a.m.

The sources close to the publication also mentioned that no evidence was found that suggested Sonam's claims of having got into the dhaba after being drugged. Well, in the bizarre, dramatic turn of events, Sonam had vanished for two weeks and was found at 'Kashi dhaba' in Ghazipur area at 2 a.m. on June 9, 2025. She had made a call to her brother, Govind, from the phone of the eatery owner. This move created an alert in different states, and then the Indore Police coordinated with the UP Police to track Sonam's location.

The Nandganj police station took her into custody, and then she surrendered without showing any resistance. When Sonam was arrested by the cops, she told them that she did not kill Raja but the hired killers killed him for the jewellery. She referred to her lover, Raja and the others- Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi. 

Sonam Raghuvanshi's case has drawn nationwide attention

Sonam has been kept on saying that she had no role in the murder of her husband, Raja. She did not explain why she went missing for 16 days and how she went missing from the crime scene near the Meghalaya waterfalls where Raja's body was located. Sonam has not yet given a clarification on how she escaped the crime scene and reached 'Kashi Dhaba' located on the Ghazipur Varanasi Highway. The dhaba is located 1200 km away from the gorge where Raja's decomposed body was found.
