Bollywood actress, Sonakshi Sinha, is returning to the silver screen with her brother Kussh’s directorial debut in the paranormal film, Nikita Roy. Ahead of its release, the Heeramandi actress has been busy promoting the movie, and in her recent promotions, Sonakshi surprised everyone by sharing her personal encounter, that too, at her own house. Her real-life brush with what she likes to call a ‘harmless ghost’ has allegedly shaken her long-held scepticism about the paranormal.
During a candid interaction with Bollywood Hungama, Sonakshi Sinha opened up about a personal experience that challenged her disbelief in the supernatural, particularly ghosts or otherworldly entities. The Lootera actress admitted that although she had always been a sceptic when it came to such things, what she encountered that night was difficult to explain, leaving her to wonder whether it was just a vivid dream or perhaps a harmless spirit. Sonakshi was quoted as saying:
“I used to not believe (in ghosts). I used to not believe at all. But one day, something very weird happened to me in my house. Since then, I’ve been a little shaken. But after that, nothing happened, so I thought, maybe it was a dream? It was a harmless ghost — possibly.”
Sonakshi shared that her paranormal encounter took place in the wee hours of the day, around 4 a.m., and it was still dark outside. The actress was in a half-sleep state, as she remembers her mind was alert, but her eyes were shut. Despite being alone in the house, Sonakshi was jolted when she felt pressure on her body, almost like someone was trying to wake her up. She was too scared to even open her eyes and kept them closed until it was bright outside. In her words:
“I was in that stage where your eyes are shut but your mind is alert. Suddenly, I felt this pressure, like someone was trying to wake me up. I was terrified. I just froze. I didn’t open my eyes. I couldn’t move. I stayed like that till morning — I didn’t open my eyes until the lights came on. It really shook me up.”
The unexpected encounter left Sonakshi terrified to the core. When she returned the next night, it was late, and she was scared to enter her own house. The actress recalled how she spoke to the unknown entity before entering, hoping to evade such surprise visits in the future. Fortunately for her, the incident didn’t repeat itself. Sonakshi shared:
“When I came home the next night, it was late again. I peeked in first, then said very loudly: ‘Jo bhi aaya tha kal raat ko, phirse aise mat karo. Main bohot darr gayi thi. Agar kuch baat karni hai toh mere sapne mein aana… no face-to-face conversation.’ And then I walked in. I swear, since then, nothing like that has happened again.”
After Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix series, Heeramandi, Sonakshi is returning with a supernatural thriller film, Nikita Roy, where she plays the titular character. The movie marks the directorial debut of Sonakshi’s brother, Kussh S Sinha. Alongside Sonakshi, the film features a notable cast including Paresh Rawal, Arjun Rampal, and Suhail Nayyar. Nikita Roy is slated to hit theatres on June 27, 2025.
