'Sitaare Zameen Par' First Reviews OUT, Viewers Left Teary-Eyed, Sudha Murthy Calls It 'Eye Opener'

The first reviews of the sports-comedy drama are out, and they are overwhelmingly positive. The film, slated for official release on June 20, 2025, is already being labelled a ‘game changer’ by fans and critics alike.

Aamir Khan is currently busy promoting his big comeback to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par, a sequel to his iconic 2007 film, Taare Zameen Par. Ahead of its official release, the makers arranged a special screening of the film on June 9, 2025, and the initial responses are incredibly positive. After the film’s screening, Aamir personally interacted with the audience, and the emotional responses have taken over social media. 

After the pre-screening of the film, viewers praised Sitaare Zameen Par for its sensitivity, powerful messaging, and heartwarming portrayal of differently-abled children. When Aamir personally met the viewers after the screening, one viewer said, “You made us cry...the last twist was beautiful.” Another added, “After Taare Zameen Par, a film like this has come after a long gap. This will change perceptions.”

Sudha Murthy calls Sitaare Zameen Par an ‘eye-opener’

Among the early viewers of Sitaare Zameen Par were members of the Muskan Foundation and noted author, Sudha Murthy, who praised the film for representing differently-abled individuals and promoting inclusion. According to Murthy, the film brings a fresh perspective to looking at these people as special and understanding how their minds work rather than labelling them as ‘not normal’. In her words:

“I feel the movie’s an eye-opener. Many people don’t understand such children whom we call ‘not normal’. But this is a very beautiful movie where you understand that they are very sensitive and that they have a pure heart. They always smile, too, because they are so pure in their approach to life… The movie is inclusive of these people, and they have their own kingdom of mind and work. This movie can bring about a lot of changes, actually. We should include them in our normal system and try to rehabilitate them in a normal way. Thank you very much for such a great opportunity to see a great movie by Aamir Khan.”

About Sitaare Zameen Par

Sitaare Zameen Par, directed by R.S. Prasanna, tells the inspiring story of a disgraced basketball coach (played by Aamir Khan) who is given a chance at redemption by training a team of differently-abled children. This Bollywood adaptation of the acclaimed Spanish film, Campeones, features Genelia Deshmukh opposite Aamir, along with ten fresh new faces: Simran Mangeshkar, Naman Mishra, Ayush Bhansali, Gopi Krishna Varma, Aroush Datta, Vedant Sharma, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Samvit Desai, and Rishabh Jain.

During an interview with PTI, the director, R.S. Prasanna, explained that the film could not have happened had it not been for the fresh faces from the differently abled group who added to the raw beauty of Sitaare Zameen Par. The film is set to hit the theatres on June 20, 2025.
