Mother's Day 2025: When Sidharth Malhotra Recalled Being Harsh With Mom, 'I Felt Slightly Ashamed..'

Sidharth Malhotra, one of the most charming and hardworking actors in Bollywood, hails from a humble background. Unlike many other stars, he didn't have any link with the film industry before he began working as an assistant director. Despite gaining success, the actor hasn't left his values behind and is often seen looking after his family at the screenings of his films. At the same time, he has always been honest about his bond with them, which never fails to vow to the fans. As the world celebrates Mother's Day 2025, let's go back to a deeply personal admission by Sidharth Malhotra, where he opened up about a heartfelt incident which made him regret his behaviour with his mother. 

Sidharth Malhotra revealed he was harsh with his mother 

Sidharth Malhotra previously sat down for an interview with Lilly Singh, wherein he opened up about a relatable incident which struck a chord with many other youngsters. He shared that his father, Sunil Malhotra, had been unwell for some time. Once, he got irritated and unintentionally took his stress out on his mom, Rimma Malhotra, over some medication dosage issue. Recalling the incident, he said:

"My father's not been healthy for a while, and me being scared or angry at times tend to be a little more harsh on my mother because she's the one who's taking care of the meds."

Siddharth Malhotra added that after that incident, one day, when they all were having morning coffee or tea at their home in Delhi, his mother shared an old incident. She shared how 20 years ago, when Sidharth and his siblings were younger, she used to simultaneously look after them and their father. Also, sometimes, she used to hide things to ensure that they didn't get stressed while making their career. Consequently, Sidharth felt ashamed of his behaviour towards his mother as he realised how she struggled for years for their sake. In his words:

"She would hide that information from us as you know what my father's going through, and I felt slightly ashamed of the fact that I didn't really give her that credit for the years building up to my father's health… During that period, my mother had made so many sacrifices that I wasn't aware of, and I had to deal with her with far more sensitivity and love and, uh yeah, hopefully now I will make up for it."

When Sidharth Malhotra revealed his parents were not intrusive about his personal life 

In another old interview during the initial years of his career, Sidharth shared that his parents used to get excited when they saw his pictures or articles on him in the newspaper. He revealed that his mom used to be more excited over his work, while his father used to comment on his trailers or films. However, none of them ever intervened in his personal life or linkup buzz. Explaining their approach, Sidharth said:

"My parents have never been that intrusive so in that aspect, I am lucky. Also, they know that they have no control over me since I live away. So now, my mother knows that ‘beta haath se nikal gaya hai’. They'd rather be friends than being parents. I don't know if they're okay with it but then when I say that we are co-stars and we are working together, they do understand. They're also maturing as I am."

Sidharth Malhotra's career so far 

Sidharth Malhotra began his career with modelling and later cracked an audition for a film which was supposed to be directed by Anubhav Sinha. However, it was shelved and he began working as an assistant director to Karan Johar for the 2010 film, My Name Is Khan. Two years later, he debuted with Student Of The Year, co-starring Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, which made him an overnight sensation. Since then, he has worked on films like Hasee Toh Phasee, Ek Villain, Kapoor and Sons, Baar Baar Dekho, Shershaah and more.
