Shweta Tiwari is one of the most popular actresses in the Hindi TV industry. Just like her professional achievements, Shweta’s personal life has also garnered a lot of limelight due to her divorce. In two of her broken marriages, Shweta had brought up similar causes of suffering from domestic violence. For the unversed, Shweta parted ways with her first husband, Raja Chaudhary, in 2012 and 2019, she got separated from her second husband, Abhinav Kohli. Now, in a recent conversation, Raja opened up about whether there was any kind of physical abuse towards his ex-wife, Shweta.
Several times, Shweta Tiwari has gained the spotlight for her troubled marriages. Now, on June 27, 2025, Raja Chaudhary sat for an interview with Pinkvilla’s Hindi Rush. In the recent conversation, Raja was asked whether he had physically abused his ex-wife and TV actress, Shweta Tiwari. In response, Raja revealed that there had been no physical violence upon Shweta, but there were times when he went to the actress’ house and banged on the door. In his words:
"Koyi physical violence hua hi nahi. Ek dobar uske ghar ke darwaja zaroor tode maine jake. Yeh bhi jab ki baat hogayi jab humlog alag alag ho hi chuke the. Woh bhi bewakoofi main, unlogo ko kya zarooraat hai ki bahar hi khada rahega, andar nahi ah sakta. Darwaja khol do izzat se, baat karke chala hi jayega na admi, usse hai ki isse provoke karlo. ‘Darwaja band kardo, nahi milna hai.’ Jat khopdi satak jati hai kahi baar."
Earlier in 2024, in an interview with Galatta India, Shweta opened up about what made her wait nine years before filing for divorce against her ex-husband, Raja Chaudhary. For the uninitiated, Shweta tied the knot with Raja in 1998. The couple had an intercaste marriage. The couple also welcomed their daughter, Palak Tiwari, on October 8, 2000. But soon after her marriage to Raja, the duo’s marital bliss hit a rough patch. Shweta claimed that it was due to Raja’s alcoholism and physical abuse that made her decide to get separated. The actress also revealed that Raja used to create a ruckus on the shooting floors of her serials. However, Shweta was initially hesitant to move out of her marriage as her family was involved. In her words:
"In my entire family, nobody had ever done a love marriage, I had. There was also caste problems that existed in our family, yet I had an inter-caste marriage. People had already started to taunt my mother and judging my marriage. On top of that, if I filed for a divorce, it would have been a whole different thing. At that point in time, it wasn't that I was not financially independent, but it was more of an emotional thing."
The actress shared that she also thought of her daughter, Palak, who was just 7 years old, when she filed for divorce from Raja. For those unaware, Shweta filed for divorce from Raja in 2007 and officially got separated in 2012. Shweta shared that initially she didn’t want her daughter to live away from her father, but later she realised that it was never good for a child to grow up in a dysfunctional family. In her words:
"I was worried for my daughter not having a father while growing up. It was later that I realised that you can have a happy family only when you are mentally happy. It's not a good upbringing for your child to be in a dysfunctional family. If two people can't co-exist, it is better to part ways."
