Shenaz Treasury Was Called 'Too Fat', Recalls Body Shaming In 'Ishq Vishk', 'Wouldn't Let Me Eat'

Directed by Ken Ghosh, Ishq Vishk released in 2003, became one of the first teen romantic movies of India. It also launched the career of debutant, Shahid Kapoor, and also starred Amrita Rao and Shenaz Treasury. Ishq Vishk has remained an iconic film evoking nostalgia of the early 2000s college romances. However, the second lead actress, Shenaz, recently opened up about the body shaming she faced on the sets of her Hindi debut film.

Shenaz Treasury, who has now established a name for herself as a travel content creator, spoke with ETimes about the pressure she faced during the filming of her first-ever Hindi movie, Ishq Vishk. Shenaz played the character of 'Alisha', who was portrayed as the most beautiful girl in the college coveted by everyone. This put a lot of pressure on the actress, who had to look perfect from all angles in the film. Shenaz was quoted as saying:

“In college, there was all that pressure too — you know, like Neeli neeli aankhon wali kaun hai wo — and then the director was like, You’ve got to wear green lenses, you have to be perfect, you have to look great. Oh, you don’t look good in some angles, actresses are supposed to look good in all angles’. As if it was my fault."

Additionally, Shenaz was also called 'too fat' and was put on a strict diet. Meanwhile, the other lead heroine, Amrita Rao, was 'so thin' that the makers had to put pads on her body. Shenaz expressed sadness at the situation and stated that the world today was much more accepting of actors and actresses of all shapes and sizes. Talking about her experience, Shenaz said:

“I was told, ‘Oh, you’re too fat, your belly is sticking out, you need to diet.’ The other girl in the movie (Amrita Rao) was so thin — they were padding her, putting pads on her — while they were trying to shrink me. So I was on some crazy diet. They wouldn’t let me eat. It was so ridiculous. And it was so sad. Looking back, I can’t believe we had to go through those things. In fact, the world we live in today is much nicer to actors and more accepting of all shapes and sizes."
