Shekhar Suman 'Didn't Want To Live' After Son, Aayush's Death, Says, 'Alka Was Stronger Than Me..'

Losing a child is the most heartbreaking thing a parent can ever go through, and unfortunately, actor, Shekhar Suman and his wife, Alka, had to face the weight of this unimaginable pain. Shekhar lost his son to an unfortunate heart ailment when he was just a little child. Now, years later, the actor has penned a long note reflecting on the loss of his late son, Aayush Suman, and the difficult time his family had to go through after his death.

Shekhar Suman remembers his late son, Aayush Suman

Shekhar Suman reflected on his grief of losing his son, Aayush Suman, in a recent Instagram post. The actor recalled how he and his wife, Alka, 'went through severe depression and despair for years', and shared how the loss redefined their life forever. In a heartfelt post, Shekhar shared that their son, Adhyayan Suman, has been their great source of strength and has become the reason for them to live.

Shekhar also posted an old family photo featuring himself, Alka and a young, Adhyayan Suman. While Shekhar and Adhyayan wore matching black suits, Alka was seen in a traditional outfit. Taking to the caption, Shekhar Suman penned a heart-touching caption and stated:

"We just came out of the greatest tragedy of our lives, having lost our elder son, Aayush, to a rare heart ailment. Things were very difficult. Alka and I went through severe depression and despair for years. Adhyayan was and is our great source of strength. He became the reason to live."

In the same note, Shekhar Suman praised his wife, Alka, for being his rock during such a tragedy. He recalled how he had lost his will to live, and their younger son was too young to understand what was going on. He was quoted as saying:

"We see Aayush in him. Addy was too small to understand the magnitude of this tragedy. Alka was stronger than me. I crumbled and did not want to live. But Alka gave me a lot of support and kept the family together, standing like the rock of Gibraltar."

What happened to Shekhar Suman's son, Aayush?

It was in 2024 that Shekhar Suman recalled how his son, Aayush, was diagnosed with Endomyocardial Fibrosis (EMF) during a conversation with ABP News. The actor's son died at the age of 11 on April 3, 1995, after suffering from the lethal disease. Shekhar reflected on the diagnosis and stated:

"After we ran tests, we realised he had Endomyocardial Fibrosis (EMF), which is rare. We were told he had only 8 months to live; we felt like we would die too. He lived for four years. There hasn’t been a religious place I didn’t visit or medicine I didn’t try. There can be nothing more heartbreaking than a parent seeing their child dead; the wound has only deepened with time."
