Legendary actress, B. Saroja Devi, who was one of the most iconic stars in South Indian cinema, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the age of 87, in her residence in Malleswaram, Bengaluru. Her demise was due to age-related issues. Saroja Devi was known for her radiant screen presence and timeless performances across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi films. She has left behind an unmatched legacy within Indian cinema that spans over five decades. Now her final wish has left fans more in love with her.
After the demise of the legend that was B. Saroja Devi, her eyes were donated to the Dr. Rajkumar Eye Bank at Narayana Nethralaya just like she had requested. Hospital officials have confirmed that she had registered for eye donation nearly five years ago. After her demise, her corneas were found in good condition and were transplanted. This gesture of hers has touched the hearts of many of her fans. They are convinced that her legacy will now continue both on screen, through her performances, and within the real world through her selfless contributions, that went beyond her life.
Saroja Devi's last rites were reported to be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 in her native village, Dasavara, located in Channapatna taluk of Ramanagara district, Bengaluru. She was from a Vokkaliga family, and her final rites would follow the same traditions. Her son, Gowtham, had shared the family's decision to honour her wishes and lay her to rest in the village where she was from.
B. Saroja Devi had starred in over 180 films, and she had worked alongside legendary actors like M.G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, Dr. Rajkumar, and N.T. Rama Rao. Rama Rao. She gained immense popularity in the 1950s and '60s, becoming one of the highest-paid actresses of her time, a title she sustained even after her marriage. Her performances in films like Kalyana Parisu, Anbe Vaa, and Sri Krishnadevaraya are still remembered as cinematic milestones. She was popularly known as Kannada's First Female Superstar.
Throughout her career, Saroja Devi was honoured with several prestigious awards for her brilliant performances, these included the Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, and the Karnataka Ratna. She was remembered by her fans for her dedication to Indian cinema. She was also a trained dancer known for her poise, grace, and emotional depth she brought to the screen.
