Indian television’s much-loved couple, Payal Rohatgi and wrestler Sangram Singh, are making headlines for their personal journey toward parenthood. The duo, who rose to fame with reality shows like Bigg Boss 7 and Nach Baliye 7, tied the knot in July 2022, after 12 years of dating. While Payal, 46, has openly shared her pregnancy struggles, Sangram recently spoke about the emotional challenges they now face with surrogacy.
Sangram recently opened up about the couple’s years-long battle with infertility and how they’re now turning to surrogacy after exhausting other methods, including IVF. Payal had mentioned in previous interviews how, even after trying IVF treatments for five years before marrying Sangam, the couple failed to conceive.
In a heartfelt chat with Zoom, Sangram Singh addressed the biological limitations women face with age-related fertility. He emphasised that more awareness is needed around egg freezing, a process that allows women to preserve their eggs until they're ready for motherhood. Sangram highlighted how medical science now empowers women to plan parenthood on their own terms. He shared:
"You see, a woman has one limitation compared to a man — she can become a mother only for a limited time. That’s why I tell everyone to get their eggs frozen so that they can still become mothers later while pursuing other things. We didn’t know this before. So that’s one area where women have a slight biological disadvantage."
Despite everything, surrogacy is nothing short of a struggle. Sangram got candid about today’s medical profession, revealing how they’ve had a hard time finding a trustworthy doctor. He shared that legally, he and Payal make ideal candidates to become surrogate parents, but they are yet to find the ideal procedure and doctor to proceed with it. In his words:
"Now, in the medical profession — while I do respect doctors — 90% of what I’ve seen is filled with scams. Some ask for money, others follow different procedures. We tried very hard, put in a lot of effort. I’m still looking for the right doctor so we can proceed with surrogacy the proper way… In every field in India, there are all kinds of people — good and bad. I’ve met many who were not right, though I won’t name names.”
In another chat with News18 Showsha, Sangram revealed that while the absence of children hasn’t been painful, it’s something they both want to change. Having grown up with eight stepbrothers, Sangram believes parenthood completes one’s journey, and they are trying everything possible to conceive children. However, they themselves still feel like kids. Sangram shared:

"Hum koshish kar rahe hai. But Payal ji and I feel that we’re still kids. We keep arguing over small things. But when it’s the right time, we’ll also embrace parenthood. It’s all up to god. In my village, kids come to me and show me their cartwheel skills. Dekh ke bahot achcha lagta hai. When I train, they come and join me. I treat them with fruits."
Sangram and Payal’s love story dates back to 2011, when their paths unexpectedly crossed on a Delhi-Agra highway with a flat tire. Over the years, their chance encounter blossomed into a lifelong partnership that has stood the test of time. Despite being polar opposites, the two have remained each other’s constants, and no amount of gossip and separation buzz can change it.
