Sandeep Vanga Had Shown Edited Version Of 'Animal' To His Son, Got Feedback From Wife, 'Too Much..'

Pan-Indian writer and director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga became popular for his very controversial romantic drama film, Arjun Reddy and its Hindi remake, Kabir Singh. Despite the criticisms of these films regarding the depiction of violence, coarse language, and the treatment of female characters, the director upped the ante and made the film Animal. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, this film depicted every criticism received by his previous film but multiplied by ten.  

Due to its depiction of violence, nudity and use of cuss words, Animal received an A (Adults only) certificate from the censor board. However, the director made an edited version of the film just for his seven-year-old son. Sandeep Vanga also revealed the feedback that he got from his wife on the film. Sandeep Reddy Vanga made an edited version of Animal for his 7-year-old son, Arjun Reddy 

Sandeep Reddy Vanga became a sensation overnight with his directorial debut film, Arjun Reddy. He later remade the Telugu language film in Hindi, called Kabir Singh, which marked his foray into Bollywood. Owing to the success he received from his debut film, the director named his son, Arjun Reddy as well. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Vanga revealed that his 7-year-old son was too little to understand hits and superhits, but was aware of his father's film, Animal. In fact, Arjun has also seen an age-appropriate version of the film with all the A-rated scenes cut out. Talking about this edited version of the film, Sandeep Vanga stated: 

“What we did was, we removed all the scenes he shouldn’t be watching, put a new edit on a hard disk, and showed that to him. This was during New Year’s in Goa. He saw the film, but I’ve chopped all the A-rated scenes. He said that the underwear action scene was very funny.”

Sandeep Reddy Vanga got feedback from his wife on Animal 

Sandeep Reddy Vanga is married to Manisha Reddy, and the couple have a daughter and a son. In the interview, the director revealed that he got genuine feedback back at home. Sandeep Vanga's brother is a film producer and often gives the director feedback on his films. Meanwhile, Vanga revealed that his wife also gave her opinion on Animal. It is to be noted that the film was heavily criticised for its depiction of women characters and alleged misogyny. When asked about Manisha's opinions of the film and if they have 'ideological battles', Sandeep Vanga said: 

 "Yes, it happens. I get genuine feedback at home. She felt that there was a lot of bloodshed. She didn’t say anything about misogyny and all.”

Sandeep Reddy Vanga made Animal when people had called Kabir Singh too violent 

In an interview with Anupama Chopra, Sandeep Reddy Vanga was asked if he considered Kabir Singh the peak of aggression since many people called the character violent. The director replied that people should wait for his next film to see peak aggression. Keeping true to his words, Vanga showed intense and often gruesome action sequences, as well as bold scenes in Animal. The film had also become one of the highest-grossing films of that year. However, given the A-rated nature of the film, it will be interesting to see how the edited and kid-friendly version of Animal is like, which was watched by his little son. 

Sandeep Reddy Vanga's next film, Spirit, will star Prabhas and Triptii Dimri 

The next project of Sandeep Reddy Vanga, that is in the works, is Spirit. Starring Prabhas and Triptii Dimri in the lead roles, the film is in the pre-production stage. Even though shooting is yet to start, Sandeep Vanga's upcoming film has already run into controversies. Reportedly, Deepika Padukone was approached for the role of the lead actress, but she put forward demands regarding strict working hours and a fee of Rs. 20 crore plus profit sharing. Later she backed out of the film and was replaced by Triptii Dimri. Recently, Sandeep Vanga tweeted out a post lambasting an anonymous actor, which people speculate might be directed at Deepika.
