Puducherry-Based Late Model, San Rechal Gandhi Was Mocked By Her Family Members For Her 'Colour'

Puducherry-based model, San Rechal, passed away on July 12, 2025, days after she committed suicide. The gorgeous lady not only voiced against colourism, but also proved her worth and the fact that if someone puts his/her into something, there's no way to stop them, irrespective of colour, size or gender. San Rechal, born as Sankara Priya Gandhi, reportedly consumed a whole lot of pills on June 6, 2025, and after days of surviving, kidney failure took her life. Amid this, one of her old interviews surfaced, wherein she talked about her wish to bring a change where colour, size, height and weight don't let anyone down.

San Rechal shared how her family members mocked her for her wish to join a pageant

In an old interview with The Times Of India, San Rechal bared her heart out and revealed how she was mocked for her wish to be a part of the glamour world. The fact that the industry is obsessed with fair complexion, San Rechal challenged these barriers, depending on which one's potential gets judged. Well, it's fortunate that she was able to carve a place for herself with her fiery wish and hard work.

In the interview, Rechal said that during the time, she was in college and wanted to take part in a beauty pageant, she was brutally mocked, depending on her colour. She said that she only got the support of her brother and father, while the rest of her family members looked down on the idea and criticised her. San Rechal said:

"I recall the time I was in college and wanted to participate in a beauty pageant that was taking place in Karnataka. While my father and brother were extremely supportive of my ambition, it's quite unfortunate that the rest of my family members and relatives seemed to look down upon the idea. As a result of the same, I was mocked by them for my colour, physical appearance, and how I didn't fit the industry standard of being called a 'model'."

In the same interview, San Rechal said that those comments actually lit a fire in her, which made her want to challenge the stereotypes and societal standards. She envisioned an environment which was free of any unrealistic standards of beauty and was filled with the belief in one's worth. She expressed her wish to bring a change to the world that focuses on achieving everything they want to, irrespective of colour, size, weight or height. San could be quoted as saying:

"My vision for the future is to create an environment that is free of any unrealistic standards and stereotypes of beauty. I want to bring that kind of change and create a generation that focuses on achieving whatever they put their hearts into irrespective of colour, size, weight, and height—not just in the beauty industry but in all the others as well."

Why did San Rechal commit suicide?

It was reported that after San Rechal consumed a whole lot of pills, she was admitted to a government hospital, following which, she was shifted to a private hospital, wherein she suffered kidney failure, and eventually died. She reportedly took over 40 BP or sleeping pills, which led to her demise. A suicide note was recovered from here, wherein she reportedly said that no one was to blame for her drastic step.

Investigators revealed that San Rechal was going through a financial crunch, and she even sold gold jewels to back her profession. She also reportedly asked her father for help, but he denied the same. San Rechal got married a year ago to a man, Sathya, and while nothing about her marital life was disclosed, investigations have been going on to explore if there was any marital struggle going on in Rechal's life.
