Not Shah Rukh But Salman Had Done This Iconic Scene With Aishwarya In 'Devdas', Shot After Break-up

Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit mesmerised viewers globally with their performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas, released in 2002. The film remains iconic today, and its evergreen tunes are hummed by people across generations. Shah Rukh and Aishwarya had especially left the audience awe-struck with their sizzling chemistry in the film, more so in the song, Morey Piya. However, shockingly, one of the most iconic shots from that song actually featured Salman Khan, despite his strained relationship with Aishwarya. 

Salman Khan was present on the sets of Devdas, even after his break-with Aishwarya Rai 

Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai had embarked on an intense and tumultuous relationship after starring in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. However, by the time the director worked with Aishwarya for Devdas, the couple had broken up and had a strained relationship. Being a friend of Bhansali, Salman would often still visit the film's sets. Bollywood film critic, Anupama Chopra, in her book, King of Bollywood: Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema, recounted an incident on the set involving Salman and Aishwarya.

In her book Anupama recounted that on the day Shah Rukh and Aishwarya were shooting the song sequence, Morey Piya, Salman was present on the set. For one scene, 'Devdas' had to pick out a thorn from 'Paro's feet. It was supposed to be a delicate and romantic gesture laden with desire. This particular shot was also a close-up shot where neither of the stars' faces could be seen. While Shah Rukh and Aishwarya were shooting this scene, Salman stepped forward and started demonstrating to Shah Rukh how to execute it. 

Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali had kept the camera rolling when Salman was picking out the thorn from Aishwarya a.k.a 'Paro's feet. This moment became quite poignant with that being the last time the ex-couple of Bollywood were present on a set together. Meanwhile, the close-up shot of Salman and Aishwarya made it to the final cut of the film, and those few seconds of the song, Morey Piya also became the last time they were seen on screen together.

Some netizens were shocked to find this little tidbit about Devdas, meanwhile some confirmed it and commented about Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai's 'toxic relationship'. One Reddit user wrote, "'I ve heard that Salman suspected Aishwarya of having affairs with her co-stars... that's why he mostly went to the sets of her films to keep an eye on her... someone from the team of Devdas said that Salman was there the entire duration of shoot like any other crew member." Meanwhile, another Redditor wrote:

Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai began dating after meeting on the sets of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Senior film journalist, Hanif Zaveri, in a Meri Saheli podcast, revealed that the couple was serious about each other, but things had gone downhill after Salman created a ruckus outside Aishwarya's flat and banged on her door when she did not open it. The actress had then ended things and allegedly got involved with Vivek Oberoi.

Though Zaveri stated that this notion was false and was created by Vivek for publicity, and he never dated Aishwarya. However, many reports have alleged that Salman Khan was a controlling boyfriend and would harass Aishwarya and stalk her and even reportedly had Shah Rukh replace her in Chalte Chalte. Many years after their controversial break-up, Aishwarya married Abhishek Bachchan. Meanwhile, Salman is still a bachelor, though he has dated other actresses after Aishwarya.
