Salman Khan has officially announced his next big project. The actor will be returning to the silver screen with the patriotic war drama, Battle of Galwan. The film is inspired by the 2020 clash between the Indian and Chinese armed forces in the Galwan Valley of Ladakh. The film is being directed by Apoorva Lakhia and will also feature Chitrangda Singh in a key role. The story revisits one of India's most severe border conflicts in recent history. However, what is furthermore notable is that the clash was handled without the use of firearms.
Salman Khan took to his Instagram handle on the eve of July 4, 2025. The poster featured Salman in a battle-worn state, covered in blood, while gripping a wooden stick wrapped in barbed wire. His face was covered in scars, but a fierce look in his eyes sent shivers down everyone's spine. The actor sported a moustache in the poster, which generated a massive buzz online. The actor shared the poster with the visual caption:
"Over 15,000 ft. above sea level, India fought its most brutal battle without firing a single bullet."
The visuals were shared with an intense soundtrack, which left the viewers shaken. The gritty representation of combat and patriotic fervour garnered immense praise from the fans. A user penned, "Gazzab bhaijan." Another wrote, "Super bhai." A comment read, "Bhai is back." A commenter penned, "Blockbuster loading."
The Battle of Galwan draws inspiration from the real-life events of June 15, 2020. The Indian armed forces clashed with Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley on the date, strategically along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). However, what was furthermore interesting was the fact that no firearms were used due to a prior agreement, resulting in the confrontation involving hand-to-hand combat using makeshift weapons like sticks and stones. If the reports are to be believed, the conflict led to the tragic passing of 20 brave Indian soldiers, including Colonel B Santosh Babu, whose role Salman Khan will be portraying in the film.
The Battle of Galwan is helmed by Apoorva Lakhia, known for action-driven films such as Shootout at Lokhandwala and Haseena Parkar. The project is set to begin filming in Ladakh in July 2025, with a tentative wrap scheduled for November 2025. According to the reports, the production aims for a 2025 release.

The Galwan incident marked the first combat fatalities between India and China in the past forty years. The battle was reportedly triggered by China's objection to India's road construction activities in the region, particularly the extension of a road linking the Darbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldi axis to an airbase. The clash escalated tensions significantly, prompting multiple rounds of high-level diplomatic and military negotiations, though a full resolution has yet to be reached.
Salman Khan is known for his commitment to physical roles. The visuals showcased a significantly leaner and more rugged appearance of the actor in the film's visual teaser. He had earlier shared a social media post hinting at this transformation, writing about the importance of hard work and perseverance.
