'Saiyaara's Varun Badola Reveals If SRK Was In Film It Would Flop, Like Ahaan Panday In 'Jawan'

Bollywood actor, Varun Badola received a lot of appreciation for playing the on-screen father of Ahaan Panday in Saiyaara. Varun essayed Ahaan a.k.a 'Krish Kapoor's drunk father, and his role was pivotal. The actor recently opened up about the power of a star in the movie and the debate related to the same. Saiyaara has achieved a lot of success because of the performances of the debutants- Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. However, he shared that if Shah Rukh Khan had done the movie, it would have been a flop.

Varun Badola reveals of SRK did Saiyaara or Ahaan Panday essayed in Jawan it would have flopped

Varun is not at all convinced of the end of a star era in Saiyaara. He recently sat down for an interview with Nayandeep and dismissed claims related to content-driven movies, meaning fans do not need big stars. He spoke about people thinking Saiyaara has proven that stars are not required in movies. Comparing SRK and Ahaan's stardom, Varun shared:

"People are saying that this film has proven that we don’t need stars anymore. That’s not true. Abhi tum Ahaan Panday ko utha ke Jawan mein daalo, Jawan flop ho jayegi. Shah Rukh ko Saiyaara mein daal do, Saiyaara flop ho jayegi. Shah Rukh will suddenly become too big for the film, and Ahaan will not have the personality to run Jawan.”

Varun Badola reveals the madness he saw for Saiyaara on the big screen

Saiyaara shattered all the box office records, and Mohit Suri's romantic drama crossed the Rs. 500 crore mark globally. It has been the highest-grossing movie, and it was compared to Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Maine Pyaar Kiya and Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. These films launched Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, and Hrithik Roshan. During the interview, Varun revealed the euphoria he saw on Instagram that Saiyaara created. In his words:

"Log jo chudiyaan tod rahe hai, chaatiyaan peet rahe hai. I think the promotions team went a little overboard there, where people are going to see the film, putting IV drips. Those people must have been told to give content in some way; thank god, people didn’t get their legs broken and went crawling to see the film."

Varun Badola speaks on the future of Ahaan Panday

Varun refrained from making predictions about Ahaan's future and emphasised that his life would depend on the choices he made in his career. Saiyaara was produced by Aditya Chopra and marked the debut of Ahaan, who had been attached to another project that was shelved. Now, globally, it has crossed Rs . 500 crore. Speaking on the success of the movie, director Mohit Suri shared:

"Script came first before the casting happened. We didn’t shoot a single day till all the songs were recorded. Even the way the film was marketed or positioned. It’s about ‘let’s talk about the content. Let’s sell the story. Let’s sell, not the actors, because they were new. This wasn’t a marketing strategy. It was just going back to traditional ways of how newcomer films were marketed. Let the film speak."

He praised the screen presence of Ahaan and shared that Mohit Suri started off his career with direction under the camp of Mahesh Bhatt. Saiyaara has really struck a pretty emotional chord with all the audiences as the box office collection of the film actually surpassed Rs. 300 crore.
