Saina Nehwal's Husband Parupalli Drops A Glimpse Of 'Awakenings Festival' Mood Amid Their Separation

Saina Nehwal is one of the celebrated badminton players in India, who, with her jaw-dropping talents, has always been the World's No. 1 in women's singles. The former World's No. 1 has a lot of accolades to her name, and she never skipped any chance to showcase her grasp of badminton. Talking about her personal life, she got married to Parupali Kashyap back in 2018, in a low-key ceremony. After almost 7 years of marriage, the duo decided to go their separate ways.

It was on July 13, 2025, when Saina Nehwal took to her IG handle and shared a picture note to announce her separation. She, on her note, penned that it often happens that life takes people in different directions. She added that after much thinking about it, she and Parupalli have decided to part ways as they chose healing, growth and peace for each other and themselves.

Saina further revealed being grateful for the memories they shared and extended thanks to their well-wishers for their understanding. Well, hours ahead of Saina announced her separation from Parupalli, he took to his IG handle, and re-shared a glimpse from his 'Awakenings Festival' mood. He re-shared photos with his 'bestest' friends from the festival, which is the world’s premier techno festival.

Parupalli Kashyap and Saina Nehwal's relationship

Parupalli Kashyap and Saina Nehwal trained together at the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy in the early days of their career. Eventually, they became friends and then fell in love. Parupalli and Saina kept their relationship hush-hush for a long time, despite the speculations being rife, given they used to get spotted together every time. However, it was in 2018 when Saina and Parupalli confirmed their relationship, and in the same year, they got married. In an interview with You & I, Saina and Parupalli talked about their relationship.

Saina shared that they first met in Lal Bahadur Stadium, and he was a bit senior to her. Saina mentioned that they were really serious about their career, and were selected for the junior international tournament, which needed them to travel together. That is when their friendship grew, and they eventually fell in love. Parupalli, in the same interview, said that there had been a lot of immaturity in their relationship before 2010, but it was in that year that something changed, and they found comfort and stability around each other. That was the moment for Parupalli to propose the question about marriage or moving in together. Parupalli stated:

"I felt a steadiness and that helped me realise how much I loved her and how comfortable I was. I even told her after the 2010 Commonwealth Games that following the 2012 London Olympics we should get married or stay with each other!"

In 2024, Parupalli, who's also a celebrated badminton player, officially announced his retirement and shifted his career into coaching. He is now associated with the Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad, where he trains the emerging badminton players. On the other hand, Saina hasn’t played since June 2023, after her early exit at the Singapore Open. She has been facing worsening arthritis in her knees, and also hinted at thinking about retiring by the end of 2025.
