'Saare Jahan Se Accha' On Netflix, Is Pratik Gandhi's Show Based On True Story? Details Revealed

With India's Independence Day approaching, numerous new movies and shows are set to grace both the small and big screens, presenting captivating stories that will inspire patriotic audiences to feel grateful for their heroes. One such show is Netflix's new offering, Saare Jahan Se Accha. This show stars Pratik Gandhi, Rajat Kapoor, and Sunny Hinduja, among others. The premise of the story is based on the crucial '70s of India, and depicts the geopolitics of the time. However, is the story based on true events? Let's find out.

Is Saare Jahan Se Accha based on a true story?

Pratik Gandhi plays the role of 'Vishnu Shankar', a RAW agent who is given the responsibility of blocking Pakistan from making a nuclear bomb during a time of high geopolitical tensions. Sunny Hinduja plays the role of ISI Chief 'Murtaza Malik' who is hellbent on making the nuclear bomb under the direction of the President, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Though the show uses two fictionalised characters as the protagonist and antagonist, the story revolves around the true events of the '70s that shaped India's history.

Saare Jahan Se Accha starts with the disclaimer, "This series is a work of fiction loosely inspired by true events.'' It shows events such as the death of India's pioneer nuclear physicist, Homi J. Bhabha, in a plane crash on the way to Geneva on January 24, 1966. The show hints towards the involvement of foreign powers behind this crash. The Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 also plays a significant role in the story. Along with these true events, the story also loosely depicts how India's intelligence agency, RAW, was set up during the '70s. Hence, the characters might be fictionalised, many of the events shown in the story are true.
