As per a report by People, Romy Reiner found the bodies of her parents, Rob and Michele, in their Los Angeles mansion. Heart-wrenching details from sources reveal that the throats of the couple were slit. This is the condition in which Romy found her 78-year-old father's and 68-year-old mother's dead bodies. As per AOL, she was also the one who relayed to the police official that her brother, Nick Reiner, should be a suspect and also referred to him as 'dangerous'.

In an essay by The Hollywood Reporter, the Reiners, including Rob, Michele, Nick, and Romy, had shared about the film, Being Charlie with the portal. The film was directed by the father and co-written by the son, focusing on Nick's substance use and addiction issues. Romy was asked how she felt about their family's circumstances. Back in 2015, Romy called Nick her 'best friend' and said she was there through all his struggles. 

For the unversed, the Reiner family had put in a lot of effort to get Nick help for his mental health and addiction. TMZ reported that Rob and Michele were "at their wits' end" trying to help their son out of the issues. Many reports also state that Nick had been in and out of rehabilitation multiple times since he was fifteen. He also revealed in a 2016 People interview that his addiction had led him towards homelessness.

As per reports, Nick and his parents attended a party hosted by Conan O'Brien the night before the crime. After the party, the son got into a fight with his parents, which turned violent and fatal.
