'We Live In India, I Have To Buy A Gun', Richa Chadha Reveals First Reaction To Having A Baby Girl

Bollywood actress, Richa Chadha welcomed a baby girl with her husband and actor, Ali Fazal. The couple named their daughter, Zuneyra Ida Fazal, who was born in June 2024. The actress is known for her exceptional acting skills in reel life and for being vocal about her opinions in real life. Recently, Richa got candid about motherhood and revealed the anxiety she felt when she found that she would be having a baby girl. 

Richa Chadha felt anxious about her new identity as a mother 

Recently, on July 16, 2025, Richa and Ali's baby girl, Zuneyra turned one year old. In an interview with Lily Singh, the new mother shared her one-year motherhood journey and talked about her reaction when she first learned she was blessed with a little girl. The actress said that she was 'a little bit afraid'. With climate change and 'so much rubbish going on in the world', Richa also contemplated if having a baby was a good idea at the time. As a 'super independent' woman, she was also initially afraid of being responsible for another human being. The actress said in the interview: 

“I was a little bit afraid. There’s climate change, there’s a genocide, there’s so much rubbish going on in the world. Is having a child a good idea? When you are super independent, that bit changes instantly, because you have to be responsible for a human being. To commit to a child’s only supply of food for the first six months at least is a big commitment. My initial response was fear. I was like, oh my god, is my life over?"

However, when she learned that she was going to have a daughter, she was filled with both determination to protect her and anxiety as well. However, later she got over her impulse and was determined her daughter will be raised strong like her. Richa was quoted as saying:

“I was like, ‘We live in India, I have to buy a gun. But then later I was like, ‘No, we will see. We will raise her to be strong like me’."

On her daughter's first birthday, Richa Chadha shared a beautiful reel titled "Thank You Zuni" on her Instagram that showed her motherhood journey. From being pregnant to enjoying life with their one-year-old baby girl, the actress's video showed glimpses of her and Ali's lives as parents. In the caption, Richa had beautifully penned down how after her daughter, Zuneyra was born, she was reborn as a mother as well. The caption read:

"For bringing so much colour into all our lives! A year ago I gave birth to a healthy baby girl at Breach Candy Hospital. Labour lasted a few hours, delivery only about 20 minutes, natural birth! Life hasn’t been the same since, particularly me… I feel rearranged from the insides out… my brain, my heart, my body, my soul. Zuneyra was born a year ago and so was I. Reborn as a mom. An entirely new being, than what existed before. A life and child with the man of your dreams… if this isn’t a blessing I don’t know what is."
