'Retro' OTT Release And Review: When And Where To Watch Suriya's 'Pitch-Perfect' Gangster Drama

Suriya and Pooja Hegde will be coming to your TV screen after winning hearts with their performance in the theatres. The duo amazed their fans with the film, Retro, and despite the average box-office collection, the audience is extremely excited about the OTT release. Where to watch Suriya and Pooja Hegde's Retro

Retro is all set to be released on the OTT platform. The film was initially released in theatres on May 1, 2025, and now will have its OTT debut with the streaming giant Netflix. The film will be available in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada. The makers of the film announced the release of the film on X and revealed that it will be streamed online from May 31, 2025. Netflix has also listed the film in its "Coming Soon". The post could be quoted as saying:

"Anbaana makkaley The One is coming. Watch 'Retro', out 31 May on Netflix India in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada!"

Coming to if the film will be worth a watch. Let's see what the netizens said about the film after its release in the theatres. A user penned, "#Retro honest review +VE: Pooja's career-best performance...she literally gave it all for this film. 1st Half of the screenplay, interval, and mass scenes are fire. As always, BGM was different level and camera movements & visuals were on point. Negative: Nothing. #RetroReview." A comment read, "Everyone thought bro's TN Market is over after #Kanguva. But it returned with the career-best opening and 50cr+ closing in TN with mixed reviews!! #Retro is a revival!!" A user in a long note said:

"I absolutely enjoyed every bit and every frame of Retro. I have so many thoughts to share, but for now, I can only say that it has one of the pitch-perfect Act 1 and a terrific terrific Act 3. Raasipettukondi, oka 5-6 years down the lane, Khaleja laga people will lap this up. Retro will be talked about. Retro will become a reference. Peak cinema. Came out with a smiling heart. I was so touched. This is why we write and Why art is integral to our evolution. More about Retro

Retro follows the story of 'Paarivelkannan', which is essayed by Suriya, who gets adopted by gangster 'Thilagan' (Joju George) and is raised in a world of violence. However, despite making a name for himself, he wants to step away after he falls in love with 'Rukmini' aka Pooja Hegde. As 'Paari' dreams of building a peaceful life with 'Rukmini', he finds out that he was unable to escape his past. The complexity of emotion, exploring love, loss, and redemption combined with Suriya's stellar performance makes the film definitely worth a watch. 

Retro was produced by Stone Bench Films and 2D Entertainment and grossed over Rs. 80 crore worldwide. Despite high expectations ahead of its release, the film faced mixed word-of-mouth and stiff competition from other new releases, ultimately delivering a decent box office performance. However, those who did enjoy the film in the theatres were left emotional.
