Red Bull officially confirmed the departure of Christian Horner on July 9, 2025, and it came as a huge shock for the entire Formula One community. The reason behind it is that Red Bull did not explain their decision to sack Christian Horner, who has been part of the team for the last 20 years. It is a huge shock for the sporting community because Horner was the longest-serving Team Principal in the history of Formula One. As a result, seeing the Team Principal go out without receiving any reason from the board is truly shocking.
During his time at Red Bull Racing, Christian Horner led the team to six World Constructors' Championships, 124 Grand Prix wins, 107 pole positions, eight World Drivers' Championships, 287 podium finishes, and much more. Horner is in the second place with 124 wins in the list of Team Principals with the most wins, just behind Ron Dennis, who tops the list with 138. It's easy to say that filling Horner's shoes will be a huge task for the next Team Principal of Red Bull Racing.
In a conversation with Sky Sports F1's Martin Brundle, Christian Horner opened up about his sudden sacking from the position of Red Bull F1's Team Principal and admitted that he doesn't know why he was sacked. He said, "No reason was given." In his farewell speech to the staff, Christian Horner thanked everyone and acknowledged that working with Red Bull F1 had been the greatest privilege of his life. However, he also added that the sacking came as a shock to him, but he continues to express his gratitude towards his staff and the team. He said:
"That (sacking) obviously came as a shock to myself, but what I've had time to do is to reflect over the last 12 hours or so. And I wanted to stand in front of all of you to break this news and just express my gratitude to each and every single member of the team that has given so much during the last 20 and a half years that I've been here."
According to a report in Sky Sports, Red Bull finished their 2023 season in a record-breaking style. Max Verstappen lifted the drivers' title after Red Bull registered 21 wins out of 22 races. Red Bull started the 2024 season with flying colours, securing four victories from the first five rounds. However, McLaren picked up the pace, while Red Bull continues to drop points. Another major possibility is the feud between Christian Horner and Verstappen's father, Jos, which occurred back in 2024.
According to a report in Motorsport, Christian Horner was involved in a major controversy back in February 2024, when he was accused of sexual misconduct by a female employee of the team. The unspecified claims made by an unidentified female employee were so serious that Red Bull initiated an official probe into the matter. In response to the claims of sexual misconduct, Horner clearly denied them, saying, "I completely deny these claims".

Many people believe that the sexual misconduct controversy took a toll on Christian Horner's image, and it could be one of the possible reasons behind his departure. However, these are all assumptions at the moment, as there's no official confirmation regarding the reason behind Horner's sudden departure. Regarding Horner's personal life, he was first married to Beverley Allen in 1999, and they divorced in 2014. In 2015, Horner got married to Geri Halliwell, and in 2017, they welcomed their first child, Monty. However, Halliwell has a daughter, Bluebell, from her previous marriage, and Horner also has a daughter, Olivia, from his past marriage with Beverley.
After the departure of Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing appointed Laurent Mekies as his successor for the position of Team Principal. For the uninitiated, Mekies is specialised in aerodynamics, and he has previously served as the Team Principal of Racing Bulls Formula 1. Before joining Red Bull, Mekies worked as a Racing Director at Scuderia Ferrari. There's no denying the fact that Mekies has big shoes in front of him to fill at Red Bull Racing, as he is only the second manager in the Formula One team's history. Let's see what he has in store for us!
