Raul Malo, as the lead singer of the band, The Mavericks, will remain an irreplaceable figure among country music fans. His musicianship earned him both praise and prizes. Hence, Raul's untimely death at the age of 60 has left all of his loved ones in mourning. Raul's wife, Betty Malo's heartbreaking post have especially touched a chord with people. Betty Malo confirmed her husband, Raul Malo's death at the age of 60

Taking to her social media accounts, Betty had confirmed that her husband, Raul Malo, had 'gained his angel wings'. Raul's band, The Mavericks, had also confirmed the death of their team-mate with an Instagram post and gave tribute to his illustrious professional body of work. Meanwhile, in her emotional note, Betty had talked about his love for their family, friends, and his joyous personality. Her announcement read:

"At 8:52 pm on December 8th, 2025, my love… our boys’ father… a devoted son and brother… and a friend to so many, gained his angel wings...No one embodied life and love, joy and passion, family, friends, music, and adventure the way our beloved Raul did. Now he will look down on us with all that heaven will allow, lighting the way and reminding us to savor every moment."

Raul Malo's tragic death from colon cancer and Betty Malo's heartbreaking posts documenting the journey

A year before his death, Raul had disclosed his colon cancer diagnosis in 2024. However, The Mavericks had continued with their tours until Raul was diagnosed with Leptomeningeal Disease in September 2025. For the unversed, LMD occurs when the cancer cells spread from the source region to the leptomeninges, affecting the brain and spinal cord and leading to neurological issues. Raul Malo passed away at the age of 60 after a nearly year-long battle with cancer. Betty, his wife of 34 years, stood beside him like a pillar and shared glimpses of his battle against the disease with all his well-wishers.

Following his final days, Betty had shared their postal address with Raul's fans so that they could send him letters. Taking to her social media handle a week prior to his death, Betty had shown a video opening fan mail. She wrote that these letters from fans have been giving them strength through the 'hell' that they were living in amid Raul's cancer battle. A recent video Betty took a few days ago also featured Raul's bandmates from The Mavericks, singing around him to lift his spirits. One fan thanked Betty for sharing these glimpses with them and commented:

"Thank you Betty for allowing us to have a glimpse of what Raul's beautiful life is like these days. He is so loved and I will continue to pray that God gives you all the strength to get through this. All my love and prayers to Raul and the family!"

Betty Malo and Raul Malo's marriage and children

Raul Malo and his wife, Betty, were married for 34 years, and she was with him throughout his cancer battle. The late musician and his wife also share three sons, Dino, Victor, and Max. Raul is survived by his wife, children, mother, Norma, and sister, Carol. The late musician had announced the cancellation of his last performance in September 2025 amid the LMD diagnosis. However, Raul had stated that he wasn't scared and shared:

“But I want to let everybody know, I am in no way alone, or scared. I have an amazing wife and boys, wonderful family, team, road crew, band, friends and fans. I don’t even have enough words to describe the love and support that I’m getting right now.”

As per reports, she appeared in this show along with her twin sister, Ana Fernandez.
