Kajol-Rani Worked 8-Hour Shifts, Says Siddharth P Malhotra, '..Using Deepika's Name For Publicity'

Deepika Padukone recently became the talk of the town after she stepped down from the lead actress role in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit. Amid speculations of her exit, reports suggested that she had made a few demands which were not fulfilled. One of them was reportedly a strict 8-hour working shift. Many celebrities from the Indian film industry have weighed in on this matter. Recently, director, Siddharth P Malhotra said that Rani Mukerji and Kajol had demanded this and worked in strict hours way before Deepika.

Siddharth P Malhotra says that Hichki, starring Rani Mukerji, was finished within 28 eight-hour shifts

The 2018 film Hichki, starring Rani Mukerji in the lead role, was produced by her husband, Aditya Chopra. It was also the actress' first time shooting for a film after giving birth to their daughter, Adira. Director of the film, Siddharth P Malhotra, revealed that the whole film was shot within 28 eight-hour shifts. Whether the child actors, spot boy, or even Rani Mukerji herself, everyone finished in that time, stated the director in an interview with IANS. In his own words, Malhotra said:

“We finished Hichki, the whole film, in 28 eight-hour shifts. Whether it was Rani, the kids, the cameramen or the spot boy, everyone finished in that time.”

Kajol had also demanded 8-hour shifts in 2010, stated Siddharth P Malhotra

Kajol had starred as the lead actress in Siddharth P Malhotra's We Are Family, released in 2010. As per the director, Kajol had strictly said that she would be working for 8 hours only. The actress would either work from 10 AM to 6 PM or 7 AM to 2 PM, or for a night shift, which also had to be 8 hours long. Malhotra further mentioned that Deepika's demand for strict working hours was nothing new. Kajol also said in a recent interview with PTI that she had always maintained the fact she would only work for a certain amount of time. The DDLJ actress stated in the same interview:

“I didn’t work for 20 or 30 hours. I was always very clear that we would work a certain amount only, and my mom (veteran actor Tanuja) also backed me up big time on it.”

Siddharth P Malhotra said that people are trying to gain 'publicity in the name of Deepika Padukone'

Siddharth P Malhotra gave his opinion on the feud between Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Deepika Padukone, due to her exit from Spirit over several demands. The Maharaja director said that if the actress had put these conditions right from the start, then the director should not have signed her if they didn't agree with the conditions. He also defended Deepika and accused people of 'gaining publicity in the name of Deepika Padukone'. Malhotra also said that the actress was just asking for family time, which is not wrong. In the interview, he said:

“If I need an actor and am confident I can finish the film within those working hours, I’d work with them even for six hours a day. This isn’t actor-specific. People are just gaining publicity in the name of Deepika Padukone. She’s asking for family time, what wrong is she demanding?”
