All the fans of superstar, Rajinikanth have yet another reason to celebrate this year, which is one of his most iconic films is all set to re-release in 2025. Rajinikanth's 1992 film, Annaamalai is all set to return to the big screen in a grand way. The film, which will be released in 4K Ultra format, was directed by Suresh Krissna. On October 18, 2025, the makers announced the good news to their fans. Read on to know when and where you can watch Rajinikanth's timeless film.
The film, Annaamalai, directed by Suresh Krissna was released in 1992. It stars superstar, Rajinikanth. The film is a classic Tamil drama about friendship, betrayal and rise-to-power. It blends emotions, hero-style moments and family drama. For some obvious reasons, Rajinikanth's Annaamalai became the long-lasting favourite.
The film, follows 'Annaamalai' (Rajinikanth), a humble milkman and 'Ashok' (Sarath Babu), a wealthy son of a hotel owner. The two are close friends since childhood but 'Ashok's' father dislikes their friendship as 'Annaamalai' is poor. The film picks up pace when 'Ashok's' father tries to break their bond and through some misunderstandings, 'Annaamalai' loses his home and wealth. Later, the film explores 'Annaamalai's' journey, who confronts everyone after becoming rich.
On October 18, 2025, Rakesh Gowthaman of Vettri Theatres took to their X (formerly Twitter) handles to share the exciting news with all the fans. They shared a poster of the film, Annaamalai and announced that the film will release worldwide in theatres on Rajinikanth's birthday, which is on December 12, 2025.
Apart from the worldwide theatrical release of Rajinikanth’s film, Annaamalai, it is also available for streaming on OTT platforms. OTT lovers can stream the superstar’s dramatic and intense film on Amazon Prime Video. Reportedly, apart from OTT, the film is also available for free on YouTube.

Rajinikanth was born Shivaji Rao Gaekwad on December 12, 1949, in Bengaluru. He worked as a bus conductor in Bangalore before joining the Madras Film Institute and starting his acting career in the mid-1970s. He began his career with supporting roles and later starred as a lead. Slowly and gradually, he became one of the top South Indian actors. Some of his films include Moondru Mudichu, Billa, Baashha, Annaamalai, Muthu, Sivaji, Jailer, Robot and more.
Apart from films, Rajinikanth is also popular for his off-screen personality. In 2000, the Coolie actor was awarded with Padma Bhushan and in 2016, he received the prestigious Padma Vibhushan award. Later, in 2019, he also won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema. Reportedly, the blockbuster actor will next be seen in the film, Jailer 2.
