R Madhavan is one of the most popular actors in Bollywood. Over the years, the 3 Idiots actor has won hearts with his versatile acting. From portraying a lover boy image in Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein to playing a rugged character in Shaitaan, Madhavan has come a long way. The actor has recently made headlines with his intense look from his upcoming film, Dhurandhar. For the unversed, Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and Akshaye Khanna, is set to hit the big screen on December 5, 2025.

R Madhavan plays Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor of India, in Dhurandhar

Ever since the film, Dhurandhar was announced, there has been a lot of speculation about the character of Ranveer Singh. Rumours suggested that the actor will be seen playing the role of Ajit Doval in the film. For the uninitiated, Ajit has been India's National Security Advisor since 2014. However, after the teaser launch on July 6, 2025, netizens could find the character portrayed by R Madhavan, having a close resemblance with Ajit.

Although the makers of Dhurandhar didn't share the background story, buzz suggested that the film's storyline will revolve around the geopolitical tensions between the two countries, India and Pakistan. There are also rumours that Ranveer will play young Ajit in the film. However, none of these speculations were addressed by the makers of Dhurandhar. Earlier, a source revealed to Bollywood Hungama that it is not Ranveer, but R Madhavan who will be seen essaying the role of Ajit on-screen. The source was quoted as saying:

"It is R Madhavan who plays the coveted part. He’ll have a cool, different look in the film and it’s something that the actor is excited about. Like always, he’s giving his heart and soul to this role as well. The makers are confident that it’s something to watch out for."

Netizens react to R Madhavan playing Ajit Doval in Dhurandhar

Soon after the teaser of Dhurandhar was launched, the internet went into a frenzy. In fact, netizens also started discussing different aspects of the film on Reddit. One such aspect is R Madhavan’s intense look that has a striking resemblance with Ajit Doval, the current National Security Advisor of India. Sharing Madhavan, the best fit for essaying the role of Ajit, one Redditor commented:

"So excited for this film. Irrespective of all the different political ideologies, no one can deny that Ajit Doval has been one of India's best security advisors. He was a spy, a real hero! Trust Madhavan to ace this role and with all the nationalist wave going on, pretty sure the film will do well."

Sharing Madhavan’s look from Dhurandhar’s teaser, a Redditor wrote, "Madhavan as Ajit Doval is unrecognizable | Dhurandhar." However, some users shared a different perspective. One user commented, "Very recognisable but excited!!" Another user wrote, "Give the make up team a raise also from the glimpse Madhavan has got the body language right really excited for this movie."

The movie has an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and Akshaye Khanna. The film will also feature Sara Arjun, who is reportedly playing the role of Ranveer’s love interest. Dhurandhar is directed and written by Aditya Dhar.
