Tennis has always been more than a sport for the audience. It is an emotion for the viewers. Recently, the US Open 2025 has seen some great tennis moments, but one off-court incident stole the entire spotlight. Polish businessman and CEO of company, Drogbruk, Piotr Szczerek, found himself in the middle of a controversy, when he grabbed a signed cap from a young boy and gave it to his wife, Anna. After facing backlash, an apology is going viral, which is allegedly written by Piotr.
According to a report by New York Post, Drogbruk CEO, took to his Instagram handle (now deactivated) to apologise to the young fan and family regarding his actions at The US Open 2025. In his alleged apology, Piotr accepted his fault and explained the entire incident. His alleged apology was:
"I would like to unequivocally apologize to the boy who was harmed, his family, as well as all the fans and the player himself. I made a serious mistake. In the emotions, in the crowd’s joy after the victory, I was convinced that the tennis player was handing the cap in my direction — for my sons, who had earlier asked for autographs."
He continued to add that he and his wife, Anna, have been involved in helping children for years and this US Open incident taught him a lesson for life. He mentioned that he will rebuild the lost trust by his good deeds. His alleged note said:
"It is a painful but necessary lesson in humility for me. For years, together with my wife, I have been involved in helping children and young athletes, but this situation showed me that one moment of carelessness can undo years of work and support. Therefore, I will engage even more actively in initiatives supporting children and youth, as well as in actions against violence and hate. I believe that only through deeds can I rebuild the lost trust. Once again, I apologize to everyone I have let down."
Prior to the alleged apology note, reportedly, Piotr had defended his actions on social media, but his statement can’t be confirmed as he deactivated all of his social media accounts. According to the post, which is going viral, his statement read:
"The recent incident at the tennis match has caused a disproportionate online uproar. It's all about the famous hat, of course. Yes, I took it. Yes, I did it quickly. But as I've always said, life is first come, first served. I understand that some people might not like it, but please, let's not make a global scandal out of the hat. It's just a hat. If you were faster, you would have it."
He then spoke about the online hate and criticism he has received and reportedly mentioned that it is a subject to legal liability. He explained that all the comments will be analysed properly and will be taken to court if needed. He shared:

At The US Open 2025, Tennis player, Kamil Majchrzak signed a cap for his young fan, Brock and before the boy could take it, Piotr grabbed it and gave it to his wife. Social media users felt his action was disrespectful. Reportedly, after the entire incident, Kamil located the young boy and signed another cap for him and gifted him some tennis goodies.
