Paytm founder, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, along with BOAT's Aman Gupta, MamaEarth’s Ghazal Alagh, and OYO’s Ritesh Agarwal, were the latest guests on The Great Indian Kapil Show. Vijay has been known for spearheading a revolution in India's digital payments and making Paytm one of the leading apps in the startup business. However, he has had his own share of traumatic experiences despite being a topper in school. He shared with Kapil about being humiliated in college as he was not comfortable with English.

Vijay was seen on Netflix's The Great Indian Kapil Show and revealed that he always had discomfort with English in college. He was a topper in the school but had his own set of traumatic experiences. Vijay narrated to Kapil about facing issues with his discomfort with the English language. Vijay shared that he used to sit in the front bench as he was a topper, but when his teacher asked him a question in English, he felt like Taare Zameen Par. He shared:

"Gradually, I fell behind in my studies and was relegated to the back benches, and eventually out of the class."

Vijay revealed that he had received poor marks, which led him to retake the supplementary exams. He shared that he had prayed hard so that he could clear his exams, as he never wanted to come back to his engineering college. Vijay shared that he faced such issues due to the language barrier in the nation and shared that one should only talk in the language one is comfortable with in order to have success.

Vijay further shared on Kapil's show that he had once misplaced his wallet at the Delhi airport lounge when he was planning to fly out of the country. He just had his phone, and that was when he realised that wallets and phones are the other frequent occupants of pockets. Since people use their phones more, he merged the wallet into the phone.

Vijay comes from a village located in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. He revealed that he invested Rs. 40,000 crores in the country so that the citizens of India could learn and understand what digital payments are and how they function. Kapil further, in his show, asked Vijay how much money was needed to live a good life, where the basic needs of any individual could be fulfilled, to which Vijay shared:

"Honestly I think all you really need is enough money to meet your basic needs. A lakh or two per month is enough. What else do you need to live."

Kapil then told the Paytm chief in a funny way if he could keep the amount he quoted and the rest if he could Paytm him. This statement made everyone burst into a riot of laughter. The episode had a lot of punchy lines, comedy acts by Sunil Grover, Krushna Abhishek and Kiku Sharda. The segment of the show aired on August 23, 2025.
