Pankaj Tripathi is a phenomenal actor; the audience has seen him win hearts with his performances in films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Fukrey, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Mirzapur and OMG 2, among others. And there is hardly anyone who is not aware of his spectacular portrayal of 'Madhav Mishra' in Criminal Justice. However, he has recently been in the talks for his alleged part in the Telugu film, Thug Life.
Kamal Haasan's Thug Life will be released in theatres pan-India on June 5, 2025. The film stars actors from across the country and the buzz had it that Pankaj Tripathi was also going to be a part of the film. However, the actor has now reacted to the same and it might not be a happy news for his fans.
In a recent chat with India Today, the actor refuted these claims. Pankaj Tripathi, who has returned to the acting world after a long break, revealed that the rumours about him being a part of Kamal Haasan's Thug Life were completely false. For the unversed, Pankaj had taken the time off for a deep and personal journey of introspection and for the revival of his love for acting. He called them speculations created by the internet and stated:
"Yeh jhooti khabar hai, yeh satya nahi hai. Yeh internet dwara paida ki hui khabar hai. Haan ji, main nahi kar raha hoon."
In the same conversation, Pankaj Tripathi revealed that he did try auditioning for a Telugu film and is open to work in the South Indian film industry. However, there has to be a role which allows him to speak Hindi, because he needs to be able to understand his lines. He further recalled auditioning for a film where he had to say simple lines but felt uncomfortable due to the language barrier. He added that he wants his character to be Hindi-speaking so that his performance can feel natural and effortless. He stated:
"Kyunki main gaya tha ek baar Telugu film karne. Aur jab main 'ABCD' bolne mein… mujhe bahut asahajta hoti hai. Ki line samajhni chahiye, ki main jo bol raha hoon. Toh main chahta hoon karun, lekin character Hindi-speaking taki mere abhinay mein sahajata rahe."
Kamal Haasan's Thug Life is an upcoming gangster action drama, which has been directed by Mani Ratnam. This film marks a significant collaboration between Kamal and Mani as it marks their union after 36 years. The duo previously worked together in 1987 in the film, Nayakan. Thug Life will hit the theatres across the country on June 5, 2025, and has already generated immense anticipation due to its star-studded ensemble cast and the creative prowess of its makers.
