Popular teen TikToker from Pakistan, Sana Yousaf, was gunned down in her own residence in Islamabad on June 2, 2025, days after her birthday. Sana, who had just turned 17 and was beaming with the happiness of the celebrations, had shared a video from her birthday on her last post on Instagram before the tragedy struck. While initial investigations hinted at a guest, the police have now arrested the assailant, 22-year-old Umar Hayat, an alleged ‘online friend’ who had reportedly been stalking and harassing the TikToker for months.
The happiness in teen influencer, Sana Yousaf’s house soon turned into an unforgettable tragedy as a 22-year-old man barged in and shot her twice in the chest. Her mother and aunt were eyewitnesses to the horrifying incident. As per reports, Sana had repeatedly rejected his friendship advances, first online and later in person. Despite her repeated warnings and efforts to pacify the situation, the obsessed man barged into her home and killed her in cold blood. She was declared dead at the scene.
Within a day of the murder, the Islamabad Police managed to arrest the accused from Faisalabad, nearly 200 miles away from Sana’s home. He was later identified as Umar Hayat, also known as ‘Kaka’, an unemployed man with only a matriculation-level education. The police recovered the murder weapon along with Sana’s stolen iPhone from his possession.
After his arrest, Umar made a chilling confession where he admitted to committing the crime after facing repeated rejections from Sana. Umar also confessed that he attempted to meet the 17-year-old on her birthday on May 29, 2025. According to Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the killer loitered outside Sana’s home for nearly eight hours that day. When he returned days later, he came with a gun. Speaking at a press conference, IG Rizvi labelled Umar as a ‘monster’ as he said:
“A monster, cold-blooded murderer is now in the law’s grip.”
The investigation team revealed that Umar’s obsession with Sana gradually spiralled into rage after the latter repeatedly denied him. IG Rizvi called it a disturbing case of entitlement and toxic masculinity, emphasising that no woman owes anyone her love, attention, or time.

Sana Yousaf was a bright and cheerful girl who was quite popular on social media for promoting Chitrali music and traditional culture. Just hours before the attack, Sana had posted a joyful photo celebrating her birthday with friends. The influencer, originally from Chitral in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, had built a strong fanbase with over 1 million TikTok followers and half a million on Instagram. She was known for her vibrant energy, her love for regional culture, and her advocacy for girls' education.
Authorities have clarified that the case was not an honour killing but a brutal act of femicide rooted in rejection. Umar, unable to handle rejection multiple times, resorted to violence. According to The Express Tribune, Sana had pleaded with the assailant when he barged into her house, requesting him to go away before being shot. She reportedly told Umar:
“You’re getting angry, leave this place. There are CCTV cameras, go away.”
The court has ordered Umar Hayat to be presented again on June 18, 2025, for further proceedings.
