Pahalgam Terrorist Attack: Navy Officer, Vinay Narwal, 26, Killed In Attack Got Married Six Days Ago

According to new revelations in the Pahalgam terrorist attack, an Indian navy officer, Vinay Narwal, killed in the attack, had tied the knot on April 16, 2025.

The Pahalgam Terrorist attack has sent shockwaves across the country. Known for its gorgeous greenery, rolling hills and instagrammable beauty, tourists often visit the place to admire its beauty. But when a batch of tourists arrived at Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, the same beauty turned into a deadly nightmare. Some terrorists arrived at the spot and incessantly shot at them. Among the 28 victims who lost their lives was a young and newly married Navy officer, Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who tied the knot just six days ago. 

Vinay Narwal visited Pahalgam with his wife for their honeymoon 

Indian Navy Officer Lieutenant, Vinay Narwal had arrived in Pahalgam with his wife, Himanshi Narwal, for their honeymoon. ANI said he was on personal leave and tied the knot on April 16, 2025. Moroever they hosted a reception for their family and friends on April 19, 2025, before leaving for their trip. But, as the couple arrived in Pahalgam two days ago to celebrate their new beginnings, they had to witness unimaginable tragedy. According to some news sources, Narwal, who hails from Karnal in Haryana, was posted in Kochi.

Some family members of the couple shared that they had initially planned to visit Europe after their marriage. However, their visas weren't approved, and they made plans to visit Jammu and Kashmir before Vinay's leave ended. He had pursued a degree in engineering and was reportedly serving in the Indian Navy for the past two years. One of his neighbours, Naresh Bansal, shared that everyone was happy over the joyous occasion of his marriage before the tragedy struck. He said:

"He had recently married, and it was his wedding reception 4 days back. Everybody was happy. We have received the information that he was killed by terrorists, and he died on the spot. He was an officer in the Navy."

Himanshi's video from Pahalgam has gone viral

Vinay is survived by his parents, Rajesh Narwal, who works in the Excise Department, and Asha Narwal, sister Srishti, grandfather Hawa Singh, a retired police officer. His father and twin sister had left to bring him back. According to the Indian Express, the viral video of a Himanshi from when she narrated the chilling incident to a nearby local has went viral online. She was heard saying that she and Vinay were having bhel puri when a man came and asked about their religion. When they denied being a Muslim, he was shot. In her words:

"I was eating bhel puri with my husband. A person came and asked if he [Narwal] was Muslim. When he denied it, the man shot him dead."

Indian Navy issued an official statement over Vinay Narwal's demise

After Vinay Narwal's demise, Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, expressed his grief at the incident. He, along with officers from all the ranks of the Indian Navy, expressed their shock at the incident and called it a 'dastardly terror attack'. Sharing an official statement from the Indian Navy, he said:

"Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, CNS, and all Personnel of the Indian Navy are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Lt Vinay Narwal, who fell to the dastardly terror attack in Pahalgam. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family during this moment of unimaginable grief. The Indian Navy also stands in solemn solidarity with all others who lost their lives in this heinous act of violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims' families."
