Paatal Lok season 2 continues to make its mark in the OTT space and succeeded in leaving a lasting impression in the audience's minds. Not just the series lead actor, Jaideep Ahlawat, but almost every actor is receiving a lot of love on social media. Ishwak Singh, Gul Panag, Neeraj Kabi, Nagesh Kukunoor, Tillotama Shome, Jahnu Barua, and Prashant Tamang are some of the actors who have been dominating headlines for their tremendous work in the web series.
Amidst all the buzz around Paatal Lok season 2, critically acclaimed filmmaker, Anurag Kashyap has also praised the makers and actors. The Gangs of Wasseypur director labelled Jaideep Ahlawat's performance as 'Hathiram Choudhary' as a 'Masterclass'. Anurag also admitted that Jaideep's work in Paatal Lok was the best performance by any actor in the 2020s. Apart from the gripping storyline, Paatal Lok season 2's directors, Avinash Arun Dhaware and Prosit Roy are also getting praise for depicting Nagaland in the right direction.
It was a big surprise for the Northeastern audience to see this kind of authenticity about their language and culture being shown in a web show. Over the years, we have seen Northeastern characters speaking Hindi and other regional languages instead of their own. However, in Paatal Lok, Naga characters speak Nagamese, and it is a treat to watch for the Northeastern audience and cinephiles in general. Courtesy of all these positive reviews, it is fair to say that Paatal Lok has lived up to Deadline's prediction that it will be 2025's first breakout hits.
Apart from all these reasons, the second season of Paatal Lok grabbed a lot of headlines for casting Nagesh Kukunoor and Jahnu Barua. In the series, both these actors played important characters. While Jahnu Barua played 'Uncle Ken', Nagesh Kukunoor played 'Kapil Reddy'. Both actors left a mark on the audience's consciousness and received a lot of appreciation on social media for their work. Unfortunately, some people aren't aware of their illustrious background as an actor and film director.
For the uninitiated, Nagesh Kukunoor is one of the finest directors in the country. As an actor, Nagesh has worked in many web series and films, but he is more renowned for his work as a filmmaker. He is behind memorable films and web series like Hyderabad Blues, 3 Deewarein, Iqbal, Aashayein, Lakshmi, Dhanak, Modern Love Hyderabad, City of Dreams, and many more. Nagesh had won two National Film Awards for his films, Iqbal and Dhanak.

Moving on to Jahnu Barua's professional background, he is a huge name in the Assamese cinema. The filmmaker has been awarded the prestigious Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards for his incredible contribution to Assamese and Hindi cinema. Back in 1993, Jahnu Barua also served as the chairman of the Indian Film Directors' Association. Talking about his filmography, Jahnu Barua has directed several memorable films like Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai, Firingoti, Xagoroloi Bohu Door, Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Mara, Konikar Ramdhenu, and Ajeyo.
What's remarkable is that Jahnu Barua is a 12-time National Film Award winner, which speaks volumes about his work as a filmmaker so far. Unfortunately, despite contributing so much to Indian cinema, not everyone is aware of Jahnu Barua and Nagesh Kukunoor's work. We hope more people know about these two absolute legends of the Indian film industry because the work they've done so far is something we will probably never see again.
What are your thoughts on the illustrious background of these two cinema legends, Jahnu Barua and Nagesh Kukunoor? Let us know.
