Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary ‘Godfather’ of heavy metal and everyone's favourite ‘Prince of Darkness’, has bid farewell to the world. The 76-year-old Black Sabbath frontman took his last breath merely two weeks after his final public performance at Back to the Beginning, a star-studded farewell concert in Birmingham’s Villa Park. His sudden demise has left metalheads worldwide heartbroken, and tributes have been pouring in from all parts of the globe.
The iconic Black Sabbath frontman, Ozzy Osbourne, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 76. While the cause of this death remains undisclosed, the late singer had a history of suffering from Parkinson's disease. His death was confirmed by his grieving family, who released a statement signed by his wife, Sharon, and their kids:
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
Ozzy had been suffering from Stage 2 Parkinson's disease and severe spinal injuries. He had officially retired from touring in 2023 but gave fans a glorious farewell earlier this month during Black Sabbath’s emotional final performance in their hometown of Birmingham, attended by legendary bands and billions of live fans worldwide.
Less than three weeks have passed since the world witnessed the legendary Black Sabbath’s historic farewell with the Back to the Beginning concert, held in Birmingham’s Villa Park. On July 5, 2025, Osbourne gave his final public performance with his band at a star-studded concert. The event brought together rock legends and fans across generations in an emotional tribute to the pioneers of metal.
After moving tributes to Black Sabbath from iconic bands, including Guns N' Roses, Metallica, and Alice in Chains, the ‘Prince of Darkness’ emerged in his signature black ensemble from a rising black-winged throne, backed by a stellar lineup including Zakk Wylde and Travis Barker. For his final bow, Ozzy gifted his fans some of his most timeless hits, such as Mr. Crowley and Mama, I’m Coming Home, before reuniting with his Sabbath brothers for an electrifying set that included War Pigs, Iron Man, and Paranoid.

The 42,000 fans at Birmingham's stadium and the billions of live fans witnessed a bittersweet yet magical evening as Ozzy and his Sabbath brothers performed electrifying hits such as Paranoid, War Pigs, and Iron Man. Those who witnessed the concert described the night as unforgettable. Many metalheads were moved to tears as the pioneer of heavy metal thanked them in the end. Ozzy was heard saying:
"I've been laid up for six years, and you've got no idea how I feel… Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Ozzy Osbourne, a pioneer of heavy metal, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, once with Black Sabbath and again as a solo artist. Over his decades-long career, he received numerous accolades, including five Grammy Awards and stars on both the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Birmingham’s Broad Street Walk of Stars.
Little did metalheads know that Ozzy Osbourne's farewell concert would be the last time they would see the legendary singer. He wasn’t just a rock star; he was a movement, a myth, and a man who lived unapologetically on his own terms.
