Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah Visits Family Of Martyred Officer, Raj Kumar Thapa, Killed In Pak Shelling

Amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the grieving family of Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Raj Kumar Thapa, who was martyred in a cross-border artillery attack by Pakistan in the early hours of May 10, 2025. Visuals of the CM consoling the bereaved family have surfaced on the internet.

In a post that has been making rounds on the internet, J&K CM, Omar Abdullah, is seen visiting the grieving family of Raj Kumar Thapa, who lost his life on the morning of May 10, 2025. According to reports, Thapa was inside his official residence in Rajouri when a Pakistani shell directly struck the premises, claiming his life on the spot and critically injuring two staff members. His untimely demise has sparked widespread grief and condemnation across the Union Territory.

Hours after the attack, the CM personally met the late Raj Kumar’s bereaved family. Taking to his X (formerly Twitter), Omar Abdullah shared visuals of him consoling them in this time of grief. His post read:

“Paid my heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa, JKAS, ADDC Rajouri, who lost his life in the line of duty today due to shelling by Pakistan. His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. The Government stands firmly with his family in this hour of grief.”

Raj Kumar Thapa gets killed in Pakistan’s shelling along the LoC

Tragedy struck the town of Rajouri in the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2025, as Additional District Development Commissioner Raj Kumar Thapa was killed when a Pakistani artillery shell directly hit his government residence. According to reports, the shelling was targeted during an intense barrage across the Line of Control (LoC), catching several civilians and officials off guard. Thapa, a dedicated officer of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services (JKAS), succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while two members of his staff were critically wounded. He was known for his commitment to his duties and leadership.

This attack is only a part of the intensified situation along the LoC, with Pakistani forces reportedly targeting military installations and civilians alike. Over the past few days, at least five civilians have reportedly lost their lives after falling victim to indiscriminate shelling across several districts, including Poonch, Rajouri, Akhnoor, Uri, and Gurez. Adding to the rising tensions along the Indo-Pak border, India intercepted Pakistani drones for a second consecutive night in Jammu. Meanwhile, Indian air defence units successfully neutralised multiple unnamed aerial vehicles (UAVs) that breached the Indian airspace near Khasa Canyy Amritsar, at around 5 a.m. on May 10, 2025.

About Operation Sindoor

The escalations came in light of Operation Sindoor, a precision military strike carried out by the Indian Armed Forces on May 7, 2025. The operation, led by Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, targeted nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, responding to the Pahalgam massacre of April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists.
