Dowry has always been a topic of massive debate for centuries. In the present-day scenario, dowry isn't that essential, but it's not totally dismissed. Over the years, there had been several cases where women had to even face death for dowry demands, even in the 20th century. The recent case that happened in Noida has left everyone shocked and shivering.
A 28-year-old woman, Nikki Bhati, married Vipin Bhati in 2016, within the same family as her sister. Vipin and Nikki have a 6-year-old son, who, through his own eyes, saw his mom being burned alive by his father and other family members. The weight of this incident had been felt nationwide, and netizens now demanded Nikki's father's arrest as well, given the reason that he remained silent for all those years, even after knowing his daughters were harassed for dowry.
Vipin Bhati, the alleged murderer of his wife, Nikki Bhati, has been arrested, based on the victim's sister's claims. Along with him, eventually his mother, brother and father were also arrested. Nikki's family has demanded that Vipin be hanged. Talking to ANI, Nikki's father recently said that he reached his daughter's house, after his elder daughter, who is married to Vipin's brother, Rohit (now arrested), informed him about this gruesome act that was committed. Her father also revealed that Nikki was 70% burnt, and doctors recommended that they should take her back home, since there was no chance to save her. Her father said:
"I reached there as soon as my elder daughter called me. The doctor told me she was 70% burnt. We took her to Safdarjung Hospital. The doctor told me to take her back because she would not be able to survive."
Apparently, Nikki's family members were aware of the harassment Nikki Bhati was experiencing. This was recently confirmed by Nikki's dad, who stated that he knew Vipin had started harassing his daughter after their marriage for dowry. He mentioned that Vipin and his family's demand was Rs. 35 lakh, and when Nikki started her own work, her husband wanted her earnings as well. Demanding a death sentence for Vipin, Nikki's father said:
"He (Vipin) started harassing her a few days after marriage. They asked for Rs 35 lakhs. She started her own work, and her husband began asking for the money she earned. I demand that the court and CM give him the death penalty."
As soon as the statements from Nikki's father came out, netizens went furious and demanded his arrest as well. This was for the reason that even after knowing that his daughter was being harassed, he remained silent for all these years. One user penned, "Her father is also responsible for her death, as he consented to the marriage in the first place. Giving dowry itself constitutes an offence. Why did he agree to send his daughter to that greedy family?" Another user wrote, "A case should be filed against him as well. For a decade, you saw your daughters suffer and you kept quiet. Shame on you."
