Netflix's latest Indian thriller, Baramulla, has taken viewers on a deep and haunting ride into the mysteries of the snow-clad Kashmir valley. Amidst the picturesque beauty, viewers were treated to a story that blurred the lines between reality and supernatural elements. It all began when children began to suddenly disappear from Baramulla, a small town near the border, hinting towards a deeper mystery, political unrest and personal grief. As the film, directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, is grabbing headlines from all avenues, here's what really happened to the kids at the end of the show.
Manav Kaul-starrer Baramulla follows the story of 'DSP Ridwaan Sayyed', who is transferred to Baramulla to investigate the sudden disappearance of children across the valley. Contrary to the usual situation, there were no ransom calls or leads, which further ignited fear in the town. Meanwhile, when 'Ridwaan' settled in the town with his wife, 'Gulnaar', and their two children, they soon experienced some strange incidents in their home, like hearing eerie noises and watching some mysterious seashells.

Later, their family housekeeper, 'Iqbal', was seen going into an empty room, hinting towards his suspicious behaviour. Further, when the investigation went ahead, 'Ridwaan' came across a sinister plan led by a mysterious person called 'Bhaijaan' who brainwashed the local youths for a 'holy war'. However, when 'Ridwaan's daughter, 'Noorie' disappears like other children, leaving only some hair pointing towards a new supernatural twist. Soon, his family begins to witness some ghostly smoke figures in their home, making them come face-to-face with Kashmir's painful forgotten past.

After the chain of mysterious activities, when all the fan-made theories proved to be false, viewers witnessed a chilling climax in Baramulla. Towards the end, 'Ridwaan' and his family find that the smoke figures haunting their home are the spirits of a Kashmiri Pandit family, which once resided there before they were killed during the ethnic cleansing in the region.

Among others, a little girl's spirit, 'Eela Sapru', narrated to them how her family was treacherously killed by activities, leaving their souls trapped in the house. Instead of harming the missing children, the spirits protected them from 'Bhaijaan's force, who planned to traffic them across the border for militant training. Once the truth comes out, the young children are safely returned to the real world where no threat surrounds them anymore. Simultaneously, it is revealed that the few strands of hair left behind after 'Noorie's disappearance symbolise 'Eela's trauma.

Yet, the biggest twist comes when 'Ridwaan' got to know how 'Zainab', a local school teacher who was helping the police, was in fact, 'Bhaijaan' in disguise, who was the root cause of all problems. At the end, the 'Sapru' spirits took justice into their hands and saved the 'Sayyed' family, putting an end to all the violence.

Although Baramulla's buried secrets and ending are rooted in reality, the film is not based on a true incident. The film's director, Aditya Suhas Jambhale, Monal Thaaakar and Aditya Dhar crafted a fictional story with layers of human trauma, emotion and Kashmir's painful history. During an interview with DNA India, the show's director mentioned that Baramulla was never intended to be a typical horror film but rather a deeply emotional take. In his words:
"Baramulla came to me as a story with layers, not just horror for the sake of scares, but horror that reflects human trauma and emotion."
Ultimately, Baramulla has brought more than a supernatural thriller to the viewers; it has brought a stark insight into Kashmir's real tensions over time. What do you think about Baramulla's ending? Let us know
