Unni Mukundan also won the National Film Award as a producer for his debut production, Meppadiyan. However, he rose to nationwide fame when he played the character, 'Marco Peter' in the 2024 Malayalam neo-noir action thriller film, Marco. The film grossed Rs. 104 crore globally and became the highest-grossing A-rated movie in the history of Malayalam cinema. The actor became a household name after the massive success of Marco nationwide. While some praised his physique and aggression, most people were in awe of the acting skills he demonstrated in emotional and intense scenes.
Unni Mukundan was born on September 22, 1987, in Gujarat to his Malayali parents, Madathiparambil Mukundan Nair and Roji Mukundan. The actor completed his schooling at Pragati Higher Secondary School in Ahmedabad. For a graduation degree, he took admission at Prajyoti Niketan College, Pudukad and pursued a degree in English literature and Journalism.
According to multiple reports in The Times of India and IMDb, after completing his education, Unni Mukundan worked in the corporate sector for some years. The Marco actor was employed at a company named Motif (now called TTEC India). The company provides BPO and customer-experience technology services. Regarding Unni's job profile, it is unclear whether he worked as a customer support executive or a software developer.
Despite having a well-paid job, Unni Mukundan remained unsatisfied because he had always aspired to be an actor. After some years, Unni finally took the risk, and he left his stable job to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. He went to Chennai for an audition, and the key person who gave him a break by approving his audition was Mohan Sir, AKA Goodnight Mohan. That one audition changed the course of Unni's life as he entered the film industry and made his acting debut in 2011 with the film, Seedan.
Unni Mukundan has repeatedly discussed his relationship status in interviews. The actor has consistently denied rumours of dating any actress. Over the years, we have seen several actresses, including Anushka Shetty, Anju Kurian, Swasika Vijay, Sanusha Santosh, Remya Nambeesan, and the latest addition to the list, Anusree, being linked with Unni. However, every single one of these link-ups has been turned down by the actor in his interviews.
Talking about his marriage plans, in a 2016 interview with Filmibeat, Unni Mukundan admitted that there's no chance of him having a love marriage; instead, he would prefer someone chosen by his family. Recently, Unni also reacted to the constant dating rumours surrounding him and Anusree, requesting everyone to stop them immediately. The actor clearly confirmed that he's single and put an end to all the rumours once and for all. In an interview with One India, he said:
"What am I supposed to gain, but daily random marriage and link-up news are surely not cool. I have nothing to lose through rumours. Think about the girl and her family."
