Model and actor Muzammil Ibrahim recently spilt the beans on many Bollywood gossips. From his 2 years long relationship with actress, Deepika Padukone to being allegedly abused by Pooja Bhatt, the actor bared it all. The actor, who was last seen in the popular show Special Ops in 2020, talked about his film debut with Dhokha in 2007 and said that he deserved the Best Debut Award, not Ranbir Kapoor for Saawariya.
In a podcast with Siddharth Kannan, Bollywood actor and model Muzammil Ibrahim revealed what he has experienced through Bollywood award shows. He revealed that veteran actor, Nana Patekar had told him beforehand that he deserved all the awards for his performance in Pooja Bhatt's Dhokha, but Ranbir Kapoor would be the one getting them for his debut in Saawariya. He said that even the late actor, Irrfan Khan, had said to Pooja Bhatt's father, Mahesh Bhatt, that very few people could have pulled off the role of 'Inspector Zaid Ahmed Khan' in the film.
Muzammil Ibrahim agreed with Nana Patekar's opinion that he should have won an award for the film. He feels that he '100% deserved the Best Debut Award'. Even though he likes Ranbir as an actor now, Muzammil says that his debut performance was better than the former's. Without mincing his words, Muzammil compared him and Ranbir and stated, "I was better". In his own words, the actor said:
“Nana Patekar said that I deserved all the awards, but would not get them because Ranbir would win. Even I thought I deserved an award for Dhokha, I 100% deserved the Best Debut award. I feel I was better than Ranbir in Saawariya. I love Ranbir as an actor now, but if you compare him in Saawariya and me in Dhokha, I was better. Irrfan Khan had told Mahesh Bhatt that very few could have pulled off that part in Dhokha."
Muzammil Ibrahim, while talking about award shows, said that what was more hurtful was the fact that he was not invited to the events where he was nominated for an award alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Neil Nitin Mukesh, who debuted in the same year. The actor stated that award shows are pre-decided, and that is why Ranbir Kapoor was the only one invited since he would be the one sweeping all the awards. Muzammil said in the podcast:
“I was not even invited to the award shows where I was nominated alongside Neil and Ranbir. I felt that award shows were supposed to be like a ballot, like we see in the Oscars. But here, everyone knows who is winning! Only Ranbir is sitting there, so he will win. It is pre-decided."
Muzammil Ibrahim said that he felt like crying since he had so many expectations but was not even invited. The actor stated that as an outsider, he could not even complain about those things. He also felt bad when Shah Rukh Khan, who was the host of the event, said his name on stage and said that, according to him, Muzammil deserved the award more. Recalling this painful moment, he said:

“I felt so bad when Shah Rukh Khan sir called my name and even said that he thought that I deserved the award more on stage. As outsiders, we cannot even complain about these things. We are not even invited—how will you feel?"
Muzammil Ibrahim had started his career around the exact same time as Ranbir Kapoor and Neil Nitin Mukesh, the actor recalled in the same podcast. Both of his contemporaries came with film industry connections. Ranbir and his family are Bollywood royalty, with a legacy that goes back generations. While Neil's father and grandfather had established their names as some of the most coveted playback singers.
Muzammil Ibrahim was an outsider when he made his debut in 2007 with Pooja Bhatt's Dhokha. At the same time, Ranbir Kapoor starred in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya as his debut, and Neil Nitin Mukesh marked his entry into the industry with Johnny Gaddaar. Out of these three films, Neil's film was a box office hit, and Muzammil's Dhokha was critically acclaimed, and his performance was praised well. Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor in Saawariya failed to leave an impression on the audience and it flopped terribly.
