Mumtaz Went On To Have An Extra-Marital Affair After Husband's Infidelity, 'You Do Get Carried Away'

Mumtaz is one of the most versatile actresses in the Hindi cinema. Born into poverty in an urban slum in Mumbai, Mumtaz made her acting debut at the age of 11 and went on to become the highest-paid actress in the entertainment industry from the late 1960s to the mid-1970s. She has given many hits to many leading actors of the 70s.

Mumtaz became a sensation soon after making her debut with the film, Sone Ki Chidiya. She has given some iconic films in her glorious career, including the likes of Bandhan, Aadmi Aur Insaan, Sachaa Jhutha, Khilona, Tere Mere Sapne, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, and many others. Just like her professional life, Mumtaz’s personal life too grabbed a lot of attention.

Be it speculations about her marriage with Shammi Kapoor or her linkup with Feroz Khan, Mumtaz has always been in the limelight. However, the actress tied the knot in 1974 with businessman, Mayur Madhvani, and the couple is proud parents to two daughters. Mumtaz went on to have an affair after her husband got involved with a girl

After their marriage, Mumtaz’s husband, Mayur Madhvani went on to have an affair. In an interview with Pinkvilla, the veteran actress once stated that her husband himself confessed to her about his affair and shared that he had developed a liking for a girl in the US. However, Mayur’s confession shattered Mumtaz. Although she forgave him, she never forgot his infidelity.

Mumtaz spoke about her extra-marital affair

After Mumtaz got to know about her husband, Mayur’s infidelity, she began to find love outside her marriage. She flew down to India and found someone to get over her pain. Speaking about her extra-marital affair, she said:

“Honestly, after the episode, I began feeling lonely. Main thodi rubabwali (headstrong) thi. I felt hurt. So, I flew down to India. When you’re amidst thorns and someone comes along with a rose, you do get carried away. But it was nothing serious. Just a temporary phase, which ended soon."

Mumtaz suffered three miscarriages

Though she has a blissful marriage with Mayur Madhvani, Mumtaz had her fair share of struggles as the actress had a difficult pregnancy and also suffered 3-4 miscarriages. Recalling the traumatic period of her life, Mumtaz revealed that after her back-to-back miscarriages, she was asked for a complete bed rest. She spent her entire day lying flat on the bed and only got up to go to the washroom. Her condition was such that she took hormone injections every morning and tablets in the evening.

Mumtaz refused Shammi Kapoor’s marriage proposal

Before tying the knot with Mayur Madhvani, Mumtaz was in love with her co-star, Shammi Kapoor. Mumtaz and Shammi Kapoor met on the sets of their 1968 film, Brahmachari, and instantly hit it off. When Shammi proposed marriage to Mumtaz, she refused because she was just 17 and didn’t wish to give up her flourishing career.
