Mukul Dev's Brother, Rahul Dev, Turned Teary Eyed Recalling How Cancer Took Away His Wife Reena

Mukul Dev’s untimely death is a heartbreaking moment for his elder brother, Rahul Dev. For the unversed, the actor took his last breath on the night of May 23, 2025, in New Delhi. However, do you know Mukul’s elder brother lost his first love and wife to cancer? Yes, you read that right. Rahul’s wife Reena was diagnosed with the deadliest disease, cancer. Rahul tried his best to save his wife’s life, but she left for the heavenly abode after 11 years of marriage. Recalling his wife’s death, Rahul once became teary-eyed and shared how difficult it was for him to be a single father.

Rahul Dev lost his wife, Reena, to cancer

For the uninitiated, Rahul tied the knot with Reena in 1998. The couple had spent a beautiful marriage journey for 11 years and also welcomed their son, Siddharth Dev. As per a report by Hindustan Times, Rahul and Reena had spent almost 18 years together, before the latter lost her long battle against cancer. In 2009, Reena left for the heavenly abode after fighting against cancer. Since then, Rahul raised their son single-handedly.

Rahul Dev once shared how difficult single parenting is

In a past interview with Connect FM Canada, Rahul spoke his heart out and shared how difficult it was for him to raise his son, Siddharth, after his wife’s death in 2009. The actor revealed sometimes he used to lose his cool. Rahul also shared about the insecurity that he faced while he used to attend his son’s parent-teacher meetings. In his words:

“Parenting is not easy at all. Women have a big hand in raising children, the way they understand children, probably because it comes out of them. The kind of patience they have for children, I tried a lot, but there were times when I would lose my cool, my frame of mind. I had to try to be both mom and dad. When I would go to parent-teacher meetings at school, I would see mostly mothers. Rarely I would meet one guy but his wife would be there. At that time, I would feel a sense of deep insecurity. I would feel where are the men."

Further in the interview, Rahul opened up about how painful it was for him to go through such a tough phase. He also shared it seemed okay to be a widower in films, but in reality, everything was very hard. He also wished that no one ever goes through such painful moments. Rahul was quoted as saying:

“It's very painful. A lot of it I don't want to remember. A lot of it I would not wish on anyone, that kind of situation. It looks easy in films, so many times films show that someone became a widower. But starting again is not easy at all."  

Rahul Dev fell in love with actress, Mugdha Godse

After his wife’s death, Rahul once again found love in actress, Mugdha Godse. The duo has reportedly fallen in love after they met each other at a common friend’s wedding ceremony in 2013. Although it was not love at first sight, the couple found solace in each other. For the unversed, Rahul and Mugdha have an age gap of 18 years. Earlier in an interview with The Times Of India, Rahul addressed their age gap romance and said that there have been no challenges due to the age difference. Addressing the same, the actor said:

“There's nothing challenging about the age difference. We have entirely different backgrounds. I hail from North and Central India, and she has Marathi roots. I went to one of the finest schools in the country. She had good schooling but was also self-taught, which is a rare quality. If at all, the divisions make for an interesting relationship."

Rahul Dev earlier shared he felt guilty dating Mugdha Godse, after his wife’s death

In a past interview with Siddharth Kannan, Rahul shared that he felt ‘guilty’ dating actress, Mugdha Godse after his wife, Reena’s death. The actor also opened up about how devastated he was back in 2009, when he lost his wife. Rahul revealed how doubtful he was after he became close with Mugdha after his wife’s demise. Sharing his sense of uneasiness in moving on with Mugdha, Rahul said:

“I think anybody who's had a fantastic first relationship would always feel if this is correct, in this day and age. There is a gap, in terms of years. So I used to feel if this is proper on my part."
