'Drishyam' Actor, Mohanlal Receives Dadasaheb Phalke Award For His Contributions To Indian Cinema

Mohanlal is one of the most famous and loved actors in Indian cinema. On September 20, 2025, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting took to their X (formerly Twitter) handle to announce the good news of Mohanlal receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to cinema at 71st National Film Awards, which will be held on September 23, 2025. In their post, the Ministry recalled the incredible journey of the Hridayapoorvam actor and mentioned that his talent and hard work have set a golden standard in Indian film history. The post can be read as:

"On the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the Government of India is pleased to announce that Shri. Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023."

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi congratulated Mohanlal for the win

Soon after the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting broke the news on X, the Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi took to his X handle, to congratulate Mohanlal for receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. In his post, he called the actor a ‘leading light of the Malayalam cinema’ and called his journey inspiring. He shared:

"Shri Mohanlal Ji epitomises excellence and versatility. With a rich body of work spanning decades, he stands as a leading light of Malayalam cinema, theatre and is deeply passionate about the culture of Kerala. He has also delivered remarkable performances in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi films. His cinematic and theatrical brilliance across mediums is truly inspiring."

Mohanlal Viswanathan was born on May 21, 1960, in Kerala, India. He started his acting journey in 1978, with the Malayalam film, Thiranottam. Over the years, he gave hit films like Kireedam, Vanaprastham, Pulimurugan and more. In his long career, Mohanlal has won several awards including Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and 5 National Awards. 

Apart from acting, Mohanlal is inclined towards charitable work. He established the ViswaSanthi Foundation in 2015, which aims to provide healthcare and education to underprivileged communities. In his personal life, the actor tied the knot with Suchitra in 1988, and the couple has two children.
