Rumours have it that with Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, Tom Cruise may be closing the chapter on one of cinema’s most iconic action franchises. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, this is the eighth film in the Mission: Impossible series and a direct continuation of 2023’s Dead Reckoning. After a strong box office run, the movie is finally landing on streaming platforms this week. Here’s all that will be included with the digital release.
Fans can rent or buy the film digitally via Apple TV, Prime Video, YouTube, and Fandango at Home. The purchase price is set at USD 19.99, while rentals will be available for around USD 14.99. For die-hard fans and collectors, buying the film comes with a range of exclusive bonus features that go beyond your typical digital release.
What sets Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning's digital release apart is its rich set of extras. Buyers will get access to five in-depth production featurettes, offering a rare glimpse into the filmmaking process. There’s also a Deleted Footage Montage with optional commentary from director, Christopher McQuarrie, and a detailed breakdown of the daring Olifants River Canyon sequence.
One standout feature is the Biplane Transfer scene commentary, featuring both Tom Cruise and McQuarrie discussing how they pulled off one of the most dangerous stunts of the film. Additional commentary tracks include insights from editors, assistant directors, and the composers who built the film’s high-stakes score.
The film continues 'Ethan Hunt’s' pursuit of 'The Entity', a rogue artificial intelligence threatening global nuclear warfare. With the world divided and nuclear codes at risk, 'Ethan' is drawn out of hiding by President, 'Erika Sloane' played by Angela Bassett for one last mission. He’s joined by allies 'Luther', 'Benji', 'Grace', and even former enemies in his one last desperate attempt to stop World War III.

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning has so far earned USD 595.3 million worldwide, with USD 194.7 million coming from the U.S. alone. Made on a USD 400 million budget had the bar set high for the film. However, the film has been largely successful, and once again, Tom Cruise has proved his enduring star power. The digital release is expected to drive even more engagement for the film.
Despite its title hinting at the finality, whether Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning is truly Tom Cruise’s last appearance as 'Ethan Hunt' remains open to interpretation. At the New York premiere, Cruise had said that the film is the final, and it’s not called ‘final’ for nothing. When asked if he would be returning, Tom hasn't yet provided a clear and direct answer.
Director, Christopher McQuarrie had echoed a similar sentiment to that of Tom's describing, the film as a 'satisfying conclusion to a 30-year story arc,' though he did not declare the franchise dead. Tom's co-stars like Simon Pegg and Hayley Atwell remain unconvinced it's the end, offering a cautionary optimism to the fans. Hayley noted that Tom Cruise is never going to slow down. She said he won’t ever stop, and this is who he is. Simon Pegg could be quoted as saying:
“Never say never… I don't think Tom will ever stop being an action star, whether it's Mission: Impossible or not."
