Meghalaya Murder Case: Accused, Sonam's Lover Seen At Raja's Funeral, Victim's Sister Shares Video

Sonam Raghuvanshi and her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, have turned out to be the prime accused in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi. The victim was married to Sonam and was visiting Meghalaya for his honeymoon. However, things turned sour as the wife had planned an atrocious plan, which took away Raja from his family. Sonam, involved in the sensational murder case, surrendered from a dhaba at the Varanasi Ghazipur Highway located in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. According to a new report, Raja's sister saw the accused, Raj, at the deceased's funeral. 

Raj Kushwaha spotted at Raja Raghuvanshi's funeral

Raj Kushwaha, one of the prime accused in Raja Raghuvanshi's murder case, was also seen at the deceased’s funeral. According to Raja's mother and other family members, Raj was seen consoling Sonam's father after Raja's dead body arrived. The video of the same was shared by the victim's sister on her Instagram account. 

In an interview with the police earlier, Raja Raghuvanshi's mother revealed that some people had attended her son's funeral. She claimed that she did not recognise these people. She also added that she had never heard Raj Kushwaha's name before it cropped up in the case.

Raj was among the four-wheeler drivers who took people to Raja Raghuvanshi's family after the latter's body arrived at his Indore home. According to an eyewitness, Sonam's family had arranged for four to five vehicles for people to attend Raja Raghuvanshi's funeral. An eyewitness, Lakshman Singh Rathore, told PTI:

"Kushwaha was driving the four-wheeler in which I went, though we did not talk. Only after seeing his photograph in the media post his arrest, I recollected this episode."

Sonam Raghuvanshi's changing pleas

According to the reports, Sonam Raghuvanshi, in her first statement since being detained by the police, has changed her plea. The accused is now claiming that she had no part in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. Sonam has revealed that she was abducted and later abandoned in Ghazipur, where she was later detained at a dhaba by the local authorities.

Another report by Nai Duniya shared that Raj Kushwaha was not in the state as he was handling the murder from outside. Raj did confess to having an affair with Sonam, and the report suggested he denied involvement in the murder of her husband. Separate statements from Sonam and Raj were then taken. When the officers arranged for a video call, Sonam kept running away from the questions, but when the camera was turned to Raj, she went blank, broke down and then admitted to the murder. 

Albert PD, a local guide, shares details from the day Raja Raghuvanshi went missing

Raja's body was found on June 2, 2025. Albert PD, a guide from Mawlakhiyat, said he saw the couple climbing more than 3000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiyat with three male tourists around 10 am on May 23, 2025. He added that he recognised the couple as they had declined his services to take them down to Nongriat the previous day. The four men were walking ahead while the woman was behind.
