Meghalaya Police has arrested Sonam Raghuvanshi in the case of her husband, Raja's murder, and now, the former's mother has opened up about her daughter being detained.

A couple from Indore, Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam Raghuvanshi, visited Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 16, 2025. However, things went south for Raja after he and his wife, Sonam, went missing on May 23, 2025. Soon after, a missing complaint was filed in the local police station, but unfortunately, Raja was found dead a few days later. While Sonam admitted to hiring a hitman to murder her husband and was arrested, she has now changed her statement. Amid that, Sonam's mother, Sangeeta, has also reacted to the matter.

Meghalaya police had a massive win in the murder of Indore's Raja Raghuvanshi. The man was on his honeymoon with his wife, Sonam, in Meghalaya when he went missing. While three attackers from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested from Indore, Sonam has surrendered in Ghazipur, UP.  Amid all that, Sonam's mother, Sangeeta, has also reacted to the horrifying news. In an interview with a news agency, Sangeeta thanked the police for finding her daughter but refused to believe that her daughter had committed the crime.

Sangeeta urged the police to keep looking for the real culprit and stated that what is right or wrong will only be clarified after the investigation. She added that while her daughter has been found, the truth still remains hidden, and she hopes that further investigation will bring more clarity. Indore Police will soon be reaching Ghazipur, where the police have detained Sonam. Additionally, Shillong police have left for Ghazipur, and an FIR of the incident has been registered in Shillong. The DIG of Shillong has sent a team to bring the accused and three assailants to Shillong after talking to Ghazipur police officials.

Sonam Raghuvanshi has changed her plea to not guilty

According to the reports, Sonam Raghuvanshi, in her first statement since being detained by the police, has changed her plea. The accused is now claiming that she had no part in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. Sonam has revealed that she was abducted and later abandoned in Ghazipur, where she was later detained at a dhaba by the local authorities.

Sonam Raghuvanshi was having an affair with one of the assailants 

According to the reports, Raja Raghuvanshi's brother, Vipin, has revealed that Sonam was having an affair with Raj Kushwaha. For the unversed, Raj is not only Sonam's colleague but also one of the hitmen the police have arrested during the raid, making the affair a reason behind the horrifying act. Raja's demise has come as a shock to the entire family, as Vipin claimed that despite Raja and Sonam's marriage being arranged, she was happy, and there were no arguments or quarrels between her and the rest of the family. However, he also admitted that the couple lied about their trip to Meghalaya, and had not booked return tickets either.

Albert PD, a local guide, shares details from the day Raja Raghuvanshi went missing

Raja's body was found on June 2. Albert PD, a guide from Mawlakhiyat, said he saw the couple climbing more than 3000 steps from Nongriat to Mawlakhiyat with three male tourists around 10 am on May 23, 2025. He added that he recognised the couple as they had declined his services to take them down to Nongriat the previous day. The four men were walking ahead while the woman was behind. He stated:

"The four men were conversing in Hindi, but I could not understand what they were saying as I only knew Khasi and English."
