Smita Prakash, whom we currently see in a podcast show titled ANI Podcast with Smita Prakash, is a veteran journalist. Back in January 2019, an interview with India’s Prime minister, Narendra Modi, got widespread attention. Not only the interview, but also the journalist from ANI who conducted the interview left a lasting impression on the public. The journalist was none other than Smita. Currently, she is the editor-in-chief of ANI.

Smita has been part of the longest-running South African TV show, This Week in India. Apart from being a prominent journalist, Smita is a trained classical dancer. Her father, I. Smita Prakash’s early life and educational qualification

Smita Prakash was born in a South Indian family who lived in New Delhi. Her father, I. Ramamohan Rao, was the director of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Smita was an Arts student and completed her graduation from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication.

Smita Prakash joined ANI in 1986

Smita joined the news agency back in 1986 as an intern. Later, she became a full-time employee. For the unversed, ANI was founded by popular veteran journalist, Prem Prakash in 1971. Now, Smita holds the Editor-in-chief position of the news agency and Prem is the chairperson.

Smita Prakash’s journey as a journalist

Over her career, Smita has contributed a lot to the field of journalism. She covered breaking news related to elections, politics, natural disasters, foreign events, and many more. Smita Prakash is well-known also as an anchor. Smita has anchored popular shows including Zee TV’s Ghoomta Aaina and Doordarshan’s Newsmakers. She hosted the show, This Week in India, South Africa’s longest-running show. According to a Stars Unfolded report, she is one of the two Indian journalists who attended a high-profile press conference between the prime ministers of India and the US in 2005. Even after 39 years, Smita is still active in her journalism profession and is a well-known face of the news agency, ANI.

Smita Prakash started her podcast show in 2022

As per a report by Stars Unfolded, in September 2022, Smita started her podcast show, ANI with Smita Prakash. She interviewed many prominent personalities, including Jairam Ramesh, Amit Shah, Smriti Irani, Sadhguru, Pankaj Tripathi and Anupam Kher. She also interviewed social activist and politician, Swati Maliwal.

Smita Prakash tied the knot with Prem Prakash’s son, Sanjiv Prakash in 1988

Although very little information is available on the internet about Smita’s marriage, Smita Prakash reportedly married Prem Prakash’s son, Sanjiv Prakash in 1988. Sanjiv is the CEO of ANI. The couple has two sons, Ishaan Prakash and Sanat Prakash.

Smita Prakash is a trained classical dancer

According to a report by Stars Unfolded, besides being a well-known journalist, Smita Prakash is a trained classical dancer. She is trained in Bharatnatyam. At the mere age of 11, Smita started taking training in dancing.
