Meet Shrima Rai: Aishwarya Rai's Sister-In-Law, Trolled For Not Posting Pictures With The Actress

Shrima Rai is the sister-in-law of Bollywood’s Queen, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who made her way into being a beauty influencer and digital content creator. She is married to Aishwarya’s brother, Aditya Rai, who is professionally an engineer at merchant navy and has co-produced Aishwarya Rai’s film, Dil ka Rishta. 

Despite coming from a famous family, Shrima has worked hard to build her own career that stands independently. By sharing makeup tips, fitness advice and glimpses of her family on Instagram, she has gained around 140K followers who appreciate her relatable personality. 

Shrima Rai’s early life

Shrima Rai was born in Mangalore, India and was raised in Philadelphia, USA. Her father worked as a scientist, and her mother was a lab technician. While specific details about her education are not widely available, Shrima's upbringing in a professional household likely influenced her disciplined approach to her career. Before starting digital content creation, Shrima worked in wealth management, showing her versatility and strong work ethic.

Shrima Rai is a former beauty queen

Just like her nanad, Aishwarya Rai, Shrima Rai too is a former beauty queen. Shrima started her career as a model and participated in Mrs India Globe 2009 and was the first runner-up. She also won the title of Most Beautiful Face. Her success in the pageant opened doors to modelling opportunities, including magazine features and collaborations with brands. She also worked with Standard Chartered Bank in Mumbai. Despite all of her achievements, she has consistently said that her success is the result of her own efforts and not because of family connections. 

Shrima Rai's personal life: love life and marriage with Aditya Rai

It was in her 20s when Shrima met Aditya for the first time at a party when she visited India. It was their respective families, who played matchmaker between the two. Later, Shrima got married to Aditya and settled in Mumbai. They have two sons now, Vihaan and Shivansh. It was in 2019 when Shrima took to her Instagram handle and revealed her love story with Aditya Rai. By posting a picture with her man, she wrote:

“So here is our story. I was living in India in my early 20s and met Aditya at a dinner party where some family decided to play matchmaker. We spoke, got to know each other and post a 1-year long engagement I decided to settle in Mumbai with him 15 years ago. We are opposites in many ways... tall, short, extrovert and introvert… but when it comes to the things that really matter... like sushi or pizza. Goa or Mangalore. and of course. our kids future. we somehow got that part down.”

Shrima Rai's life behind the glamour and camera

Even though Shrima is a part of one of India’s most famous families, she makes it clear that her personal life is far from the glitz, glamour and red-carpet image people often imagine. She has described her household as typical, simple and filled with normal ups and downs, much like any other family. In an interview with Pinkvilla, she shared:

“People assume it to be this very glamorous, filmy type of atmosphere but it's the very opposite. It's your typical normal household with the usual comedy, drama, and romance.”

She also spoke about her mother-in-law, Brindya Rai, calling her a reserved yet strong woman. Shrima admires Brindya’s strength and grace, especially as someone who has stayed out of the media's attention. This respect for family values and keeping a grounded lifestyle has shaped Shrima’s own approach to life and social media. Instead of chasing attention all the time, she focuses on sharing meaningful content and genuine parts of her life. 

Shrima Rai's way into being a Digital content creator

Shrima Rai switched from a successful career in wealth management to the world of content creation in 2017. Since then, she has established herself as a known lifestyle and beauty influencer. As of May 2025, her Instagram account has over 14K followers, where she shares content related to fashion, fitness, parenting and everyday life. Her posts often reflect her personal experiences, making her relatable to a broad audience. 

In one of her posts, Shrima Rai also shared an insight into her post-pregnancy transformation and revealed how, during her first pregnancy, it was easy. She also said that her body completely changed after her second pregnancy and losing belly was challenging. In a 2020 Instagram post, she candidly answered all questions asked to her about post-pregnancy journey and wrote,

"2016 vs 2020. Frequently asked questions answered below: 1. I had normal deliveries both times without epidural. 2. Post the 1st pregnancy I gained 12 kgs during and after. I lost it all with High Intensity Interval Training and cutting back on junk food. But in the second pregnancy, my hormones changed, I was older and with 2 kids I struggled. I realised that my body had changed and I wasn't able to drop the tummy and thigh fat as easily and my body overall was much softer and flabby.”

Apart from her digital presence, Shrima has also been recognised for her contributions to fashion and entrepreneurship. In early 2025, she was featured in The Womenpreneur India's "Elite 100" list, celebrating dynamic women who effortlessly integrate fashion, parenting and cultural heritage into their work.

Shrima Rai's 2024 controversy around Aishwarya and Abhishek's divorce and her response

During the mid 2024, the most loved couple of Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan’s marriage was under heavy public speculation. Rumours about the couple’s possible separation gained attention after they arrived separately at a high-profile wedding event in July 2024. The situation intensified when Abhishek liked an Instagram post discussing “grey divorces”, which referred to long-term married couples deciding to part ways later in life.

Amidst this, Shrima Rai found herself in the middle of an unexpected controversy, when a user found one of Shrima’s old Instagram posts, where she was with her husband Aditya Rai, their children, and Aditya’s mother, Brindya Rai. Many were surprised to know that Shrima was related to the Bachchan family, as she never spoke about them online. One user commented, “I never knew you were Aishwarya’s sister-in-law until your recent pictures.”, to which Shrima responded, “Good, I want you to see me for me.” However, this simple reply was soon taken out of context, where people began speculating that Shrima did not like Aishwarya or was intentionally distancing herself.

Apart from this, when she was asked by another user, why does she not post pictures with Aishwarya, her reply was straightforward when she asked the user to visit Aishwarya's page to find her pictures. After this, fans became curious and unintentionally started trolling her by accusing her of building her image using her celebrity connections according to her convenience. What started as a harmless curiosity soon became an intense discussion, dragging Shrima into a media storm she never intended to be part of.

Shrima then decided to talk about the situation, where she shared a screenshot of her messages on her story, in which a user apologized to Shirma and explained that the comment was an impulsive reaction after knowing the connection between Shrima and Aishwarya but it was later exaggerated by the media. To which she replied,

“It's not your fault”.

Later, to directly address and end the trolling, she wrote on her Instagram story,  

“Facts. My birthday was November 21, and as usual, flowers were sent. I thanked everyone with a shout-out. Before I became a blogger/content creator, I was a banker in Wealth Management for several years. I have also been a Gladrags Mrs. India Globe 2009. Post-2017, I transitioned into blogging. I have NEVER tried to open any business with anyone’s name. I am clarifying things because these are facts. I have built an independent career as a content creator for years on my own, and as a woman, I find it in poor taste for anyone to try to tear that fact down. For this, my husband, mother-in-law, and parents can vouch. As a mother, it is extremely important to me that facts are clear when my name is involved.”

This response of her was appreciated by many of her followers, who praised her for maintaining dignity amid unnecessary online speculation. Her words reminded everyone that while she is connected to a famous family, she has worked hard to create her own career as a digital influencer, fitness advocate and mother.
