Michael Mando, the Canadian actor, is best known for his role as 'Nacho Varga' in Better Call Saul and 'Mac Gargan' in Spider-Man: Homecoming. According to multiple reports, the Canadian actor is all set to return as 'Scorpion', the super-villain in the film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. For the unversed, the film is scheduled to hit the US theatres on July 31, 2026.
As reports of Michael Mando’s return as 'Scorpion' surfaced online, people are showing great interest in knowing more about the actor’s life. Michael was born in Quebec City and is the second of three brothers. But do you know that the Spider-Man: Homecoming actor was raised by a single dad? Yes, you read it right. So, without further ado, let’s dive in to know more about the actor.
Michael Mando shared a close bond with his father. He considered him a hero and took pride in the way he had raised him and his brothers single-handedly. Earlier in an interview with Q’s Tom Power, the Canadian actor shared that when he was shooting for Season 5 of Better Call Saul, he came to know about his father’s terminal cancer. It was a tough time for him, as in the reel-life too, he did similar things that were happening in his real life.
Back in 2020, Michael’s dad left for the heavenly abode, just before the shooting of the sixth and final season of Better Call Saul began. In the same interview, Michael also recalled the time when his father was shot at his store in Angola, South Africa, during a robbery. For the unversed, Michael’s dad was a chemist by profession and got a PhD, a doctorate in Chemistry.
Michael’s real life is a perfect example of what we call Karma. Although we are referring to his on-screen sinister works that seemed to be taking a toll on his real life. Years back, when Michael had made his entry into the glamour world, he was busy studying International Relations at the University of Montreal. However, he had to leave university due to a tragic incident. Michael’s mom was shot in a carjacking that made her paralysed. In the interview with Q’s Tom Power, he recalled the tragic moment, when he finally met his mom after staying away for many years and took care of her.

In the same interview with Q’s Tom Power, Michael shared that when he came to Montreal in Quebec, Canada, he began to read a lot of spiritual books. This growing fondness for reading spiritual content led him to pursue acting. Soon, he left the University and joined the Dome theatre, now named Dawson Theatre. Since then, he never looked back. He was quoted as saying:
"When I came back to Montreal, I think I was reading a lot of books about spirituality and stuff. And that's where my acting career and Montreal really came into play. I left university, joined the Dome Theatre [now named Dawson Theatre, the venue for Dawson College's acting program] — it was just going to be for a semester, and I ended up never leaving the profession."
