There are a handful of celebrity sibling duos in Hollywood, but Jason Bateman and his sister, Justine Bateman, are one of the most well-known among them. This is especially true because both Jason and Justine grew up in the spotlight from a very early age. Jason got his big break when he was only 11 years of age as 'James Cooper Ingalls' on Little House on the Prairie. Coming to his sister, her first work in front of the camera came when she was a teenager, 16 years old to be exact. She played the character of 'Mallory Keaton' on the hit television sitcom, Family Ties.
Although the sibling pair has been in the public eye for many decades, not much is known about the kind of relationship they have with each other. Movie fanatics and the siblings' fans over the years have also wondered many times if they have had a falling out with each other. This is why, in a recent interview, when the 56-year-old Jason commented that they "don't see each other a ton" these days, it left the internet buzzing. Following what he said, many social media users have also become more interested in Justine's life. If you are one of them, here's everything we know.

Justine Bateman was born to her parents, Kent and Victoria Bateman, in February 1966. For those unaware, Kent was a director and film producer for Ealing Films in the late 60s and 70s. Meanwhile, his wife, Victoria, was a flight attendant for the now-defunct airline, Pan Am. Already having a parent associated with the film industry led Justine to pursue acting from a very young age. She made her debut as a teenager, when she was 16 years old, by playing the role of 'Mallory Keaton' in one of the most famous TV sitcoms from back in the day, Family Ties. She was a part of the show for all seven seasons, spanning from 1982 to 1989.

Apart from their own jobs, Justine's parents were also working as her manager as well as her younger brother, Jason's, when he was only 11. While most people might think of this as something good, it wasn't, according to the siblings, because it caused quite a lot of tension within their family. During a February 2025 episode of Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend, Justine's brother even revealed that their parents eventually made more money as managers for him and Justine than they did in their respective careers. He shared:
“We were living in a certain condo that we wouldn’t be able to live in if they were just using their salaries.”

Following her stint on Family Days, Justine also starred in other shows, including Men Behaving Badly, Men in Trees, Still Standing, Californication, and Desperate Housewives. Some of the films that she has worked in include 1988's Satisfaction, 2006's The TV Set, and 2001's Violet. Violet is one of the more special additions to her career, as, similar to her father, she also tried her hand at writing, directing, and producing the film for the first time. While most people might recognise her for her work in TV shows and films, a lesser-known fact about her is that she has also authored two books. These books are titled Fame: The Hijacking of Reality, which came out in 2018, and Face: One Square Foot of Skin, published in 2021.

Coming to her marriage, the 59-year-old actress has been happily married to financier, Mark Fluent for over two decades, since 2001. The couple also has two children. Justine and her husband welcomed their son, Duke, in 2002, followed by their daughter, Gianetta, in 2004.

With both Justine and Jason having made a name for themselves as child actors and being in the industry for over 4 decades now, their sibling relationship has also been a topic of curiosity for fans. The duo is rarely seen talking about their relationship in public. In a rare moment in 2015, Jason, the younger of the two siblings, revealed that his bond with Justine was "healthy". During an episode of the podcast, WTF With Marc Maron in 2015, he stated:
“Well, let’s earn the relationship that adults should or could have. You’re not handcuffed because of the blood. You’ve gotta earn it.”
Now, once again, in a December 2025 interview with Esquire, we got a glimpse into their relationship when Jason opened up about how he and his sister “don't see each other a ton.” This was mostly the case because their families aren't too close to each other. He stated:
“There isn’t the typical ‘We see each other every Thanksgiving or every Christmas and our kids want to be together.’ There isn’t that...In a great way.”
