Who is Genie Francis' husband, Jonathan Frakes?

Jonathan Frakes was born on August 19, 1952, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. He attended Liberty High School in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts in Theatre Arts from Pennsylvania State University in 1974. He began his professional career in the late 1970s by working for Marvel Comics. Later, he became a household name with his role as 'William Riker' in the TV series, Star Trek: The Next Generation. This show brought him immense fame.

Jonathan reprised his role in the Star Trek films, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise, Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Lower Decks. Besides being an actor, Jonathan has directed films, including Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Insurrection, and series, including Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, Discovery, Picard, and Strange New Worlds. He is currently the host of the American TV anthology series, Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction.

Genie Francis and Jonathan Frakes' love story

Genie Francis first met Jonathan Frakes on the sets of the TV miniseries, Bare Essence. Back then, Genie was 20, and Jonathan was 30. Two years later, the couple again crossed paths for the TV miniseries, North and South, when they fell in love. In a 2023 interview with People, Jonathan shared a glimpse of their initial days of dating. The actor and filmmaker shared that when they worked in Bare Essence, she found Genie too young for him; however, things changed during the filming of North and South. He was quoted as saying:

"We've been together for 38 years. I met my wife, the wonderful Genie Francis, on a show called Bare Essence, which was the last of the nighttime soaps – and she was too young for me! So we were on location in Charleston and Natchez, and we fell in love – and now, somehow, she wasn't too young for me. So we have been together ever since our first date on North and South when we took a break for Memorial Day and went to New Orleans 38 years ago."

In the same interview, Jonathan shared that when they began dating, Genie was already a star, and he used to play minor roles. He mentioned that Genie had a good equation with popular stars, Patrick Swayze and Lesley-Anne Down. He then quipped that why Genie chose him as her partner is still a mystery to him. He was quoted as saying:

"Somehow, she took a chance on me, because I was like, number 37 on the call sheet on North and South and she was up there with Patrick Swayze and Lesley-Anne Down. So why would she go out with me is a mystery!"

The couple tied the knot on May 28, 1988, two days after the General Hospital fame, Genie Francis’s 26th birthday. The duo was blessed with two children, son, Jameson Ivor and daughter, Elizabeth Frances. Their daughter is an actor and writer.
