Nikki's Sister-In-Law, Meenakshi Bhati, Accuses The Family Of Dowry Harassment, 'Dono Behen...'

It's been quite some days since the Nikki dowry case has been making headlines. The partially captured death video of 28-year-old Nikki Bhati has widely been going viral. Amid all the headlines, Nikki's sister-in-law, Meenakshi Bhati, recently, has come forward and accused Nikki's family against some serious allegations. 

Nikki and Kanchan used to beat Meenakshi Bhati

Recently, India Today has uploaded a video of Meenakshi Bhati talking to Aaj Tak, in which she has accused Nikki’s family. Meenakshi was married to Nikki’s brother, Rohit, and she mentioned that Nikki, her sister, Kanchan, their mother and Meenakshi’s husband, Rohit used to beat her and torture for more dowry. Meenakshi mentioned that she somehow escaped from their torture. In her words:

"Dono behen rehti thi aur maa rehti thi aur Rohit. Dahej ke liye maarte the, kehte the ki chali jaa yaha se, hum apne bhai ki dusri shaadi karenge, tu hume pasand nahi hai. Main gav ki taraf bhagi thi, unse bachkar. Sabko pata hai."

Who is Meenakshi Bhati?

Meenakshi Bhati is the sister-in-law of Nikki, who was married to Nikki’s brother, Rohit. According to report by India Today, Meenakshi got married to Rohit in 2016, and allegedly since then was facing torture by the family. Meenakshi claimed that at the time of her marriage, her father gave Rohit a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz car and 31 tola gold, but Rohit's family wanted more dowry, especially a Scorpio SUV. Meenakshi stated that Rohit used to physically assault her and alleged that he once fired a shot at her brother. She also claimed that Rohit had forced her to undergo abortion twice.

On August 21, 2025, the nation was left shocked, when Nikki Bhati was burned to death at her in-laws' home. Her sister, Kanchan filed an FIR saying that Nikki was dragged by the hair and set on fire by her husband, Vipin Bhati, and other family members because of dowry. Reportedly, Vipin and his family repeatedly demanded dowry of around Rs. 35 lakhs and a luxury car, which Nikki’s family couldn’t afford. Later, her six-year-old child gave a statement to the police and said that he saw everything happening in front of his eyes. His statement:

"Meri mumma ke upar kuch dala, fir unko chanta mara fir lighter se aag laga di."

Where is Vipin Bhati right now?

Vipin Bhati, who is the prime accused in the murder of Nikki, is currently under arrest. On the day of investigation, police arrested him. Some officers mentioned that he even tried to flee and attempted to take a constable's pistol, but he was shot on his leg during an encounter. He was then treated in the hospital and is currently in judicial custody. During his treatment in the hospital, he told a new agency, ANI, that he has no remorse because he has not killed his wife. He said:

"I have no remorse. I haven't killed her. She died on her own. Husbands and wives often have fights...it is very common."
