Mark Volman, the co-founder of the 1960s rock band, The Turtles, and one-half of the comedy rock duo, Flo and Eddie, has passed away. He left an indelible mark on the music industry with his hits like Happy Together and Elenore. Apart from his vibrant stage presence and musical legacy, Mark's personal life and family provided a grounding force throughout his illustrious career. However, amid all this, he always chose to guard his personal life. Here's everything you must know about his family and relationships.
Mark Volman's personal life included two significant marriages and a close-knit relationship with his children. In January 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Lee Hickey. Their 25-year marriage produced two daughters, Sarina Marie and Hallie Rae Volman. Despite their eventual divorce, Mark maintained a connection with his ex-wife Pat, who, along with their daughters, supported him through his later health challenges. However, he kept their family away from spotlight.
In 2000, Volman married Emily, his second wife, with whom he was married until their divorce in 2015. Emily was by his side during significant moments of his later career. She supported him through his battle with Lewy body dementia. After their separation, she remained a supportive figure in his life, and Mark referred to her as his significant other in his final years. His daughters, Sarina and Hallie, and ex-wife Pat were integral to his support system, helping him manage his health.
Mark Volman's role as a father was also filled with challenges. In his memoir, Happy Forever: My Musical Adventures With The Turtles, Frank Zappa, T. Rex, Flo and Eddie, and more, he had included some rare insights from family and friends. Some of them noted his occasional absence as a father due to his demanding career. However, Mark worked to mend these relationships, and his daughters remained a source of pride and strength.
On September 5, 2025, Mark Volman passed away in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 78. He died following a brief and unexpected illness. Although he was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia in 2020, which significantly impacted his health, the exact cause of his sudden illness was not revealed in public reports. His death came as a shock to fans and the music community due to his active presence on the Happy Together tour through the summer of 2025, where he performed alongside Ron Dante, who had replaced Kaylan.
