Dr Madhu Chopra recently had a candid chat with Lehren Retro. At one point in their discussion, the interviewer recalled a lesser-known incident from Priyanka Chopra’s initial days in Bollywood. It happened on the sets of Tarun Mansukhani’s 2008 film, Dostana, where Priyanka worked with Manish Malhotra for the first time.

As the discussion continued, it was revealed that Manish Malhotra was initially uncomfortable working with Priyanka, and their professional relationship remained strained throughout the shoot. However, things took a dramatic turn on the last day of filming when Karan Johar, the film’s producer, invited Manish to the wrap-up party. In response, Manish mistakenly sent a text message to Priyanka, which was meant for Karan. The message read:

“Thank God, it’s the last day of working with her.”

As soon as he realised his blunder, Manish immediately tried to make amends. He approached Priyanka to explain, fearing their professional ties — and even potential friendship, were ruined. However, instead of holding a grudge, Priyanka chose to resolve the issue maturely. She was open to discussing whatever issue the designer felt working with her. She spoke to Manish, cleared the air, and moved past the misunderstanding. This incident, rather than driving a wedge between them, became the foundation of their strong friendship.

In the same conversation, Dr Madhu Chopra expressed immense pride in her daughter’s ability to handle conflicts with grace. She noted that Priyanka has always been someone who values relationships and avoids negativity. She shared that the actress handles situations with utmost grace, and only cuts ties with those with whom the relationship is irreparable. Recalling how Priyanka has only ended her relationship with one person, Madhu shared:

“She can handle all kinds of situations, but she also has an opposite side to her personality. If she dislikes someone... Cut, cut, cut. This only happens when the relationship is irreparable. It’s happened only once, where the relationship was irreparable, and he deserved it. But I haven’t seen this happen otherwise.”
